About the Bakery

Hello, travelers!
I’m Kurumikko, a Sarukuma writer β™ͺ

Today I’d like to introduce you to
“POMPADOUR Kusunoki Branch,”
located in Kusunoki, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

POMPADOUR has several locations across Kumamoto, including the Kumamoto Tsuruya store, plus the Hamasen, Shin-Oe, Goryo, and Kusunoki branches inside Tsuruya Foody One supermarkets.

This time, I visited the Kusunoki branch!

Since this bakery is located inside a supermarket, it’s the perfect spot to drop by while doing your shopping. Or, like me, you might wander in unintentionally β€” lured by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread (something I, as a homemaker, have experienced many times).

It’s such a treat to find handcrafted, stylish, freshly baked bread right inside a supermarket ~ οΌΎοΌΎ

Right near the entrance, you’ll spot the famous Salt Bread Roll with Sweet Bean Paste & Butter (184 yen) β€” featured on TV!

It’s so popular that they also sell it in packs of three (*’β–½’*)

Cheese Onion Bread (half) β€” 292 yen

Apple Pie (quarter) β€” 389 yen

Some breads are sold whole, while others come in half or quarter sizes. As a customer, it’s wonderful to have size options to choose from ☺

Plus, every loaf is pre-bagged from the start, so it feels really hygienic and safe!

Chocolate France β€” 173 yen

Spinach & Cheddar Cheese β€” 195 yen

Innocent Cheese β€” 216 yen

Smoked Cheese & Walnut β€” 216 yen

This one is a kid favorite β˜†

Sweet Potato Bread β€” 152 yen
The pure white dough with chunks of sweet potato peeking out looks absolutely irresistible (*Β΄β–½ο½€*)

They also offer bagels alongside their breads!

・Double Berry & Maple Walnut β€” 195 yen each

As a huge bagel lover, I always grab at least one of these on every visit (*’β–½’*)

What’s surprising is that not only the variety of breads is huge, but the selection of shokupan (Japanese milk bread loaves) is also impressive!

They even sell 3-kin loaves of shokupan β€” that’s about three times the standard size!

A 3-kin loaf is amazingly long, as you can see (γ‚œ.γ‚œ)

Right next to the cash register, you’ll find jams and sweets perfect for spreading on your shokupan.

And even more sweets and treats are on display (*Β΄β–½ο½€*)

There’s an eat-in space too, so with proper hygiene precautions, you can take a shopping break here with a coffee paired with your bread (^_-)-β˜†

Recommended Menu

This time, I tried the Sweet Potato Bread, Double Berry Bagel, and Chocolate France!

When I told the staff I’d be eating in the store, they kindly handed me an adorable oshibori (wet hand towel)!

Chocolate France β€” 173 yen

My child has recently discovered a love for chocolate. Even though they can’t read katakana yet, they somehow sensed it and pointed enthusiastically at the chocolate-filled bread, saying “This one!”

We split it in half and shared it together!

It’s packed with cube-shaped chocolate pieces, and the dough is soft enough for kids to enjoy easily β€” absolutely delicious (*’βˆ€’*)

The chocolate is sweet, and my child happily devoured it!

Sweet Potato Bread β€” 152 yen

The pure white dough is as fluffy as a baby’s bottom, and inside you’ll find cubes and a paste of sweet potato.

The sweet potato has a gentle natural sweetness, making it absolutely perfect for little ones (*’βˆ€’*)

And the bagel ☺

Today I went with the Blueberry one (195 yen)!

Firm, chewy dough with incredible springiness!
It’s also packed with plenty of berries kneaded right into the dough (*’β–½’*)

It made for a wonderful, happy cafe break in the middle of my shopping trip!
Gochisousama deshita (Thank you for the meal)!
