Tatsunoya Ramen: A Family-Friendly Ramen Spot in Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City
2020.10.18

A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand report on “Tatsunoya,” located in Sakuragi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City. We’ll cover family-friendly features, access, and opening hours.
Hello, everyone!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”
Today, I’d like to introduce you to Tatsunoya Mashiki Interchange Branch, located in Sakuragi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City.
Many locals already know this place, but Tatsunoya is one of the most highly recommended ramen shops for families with kids in Kumamoto. I just had to share it on “Sarukuma” β so here we go!
As the shop name suggests, it’s located near the Mashiki Interchange, with a Hello Day supermarket next door and a Komeda Coffee shop right across the street β easy landmarks for visitors!
The parking lot is nice and spacious!
Here are the opening hours!
Lunchtime gets quite busy, but there’s a comfortable waiting room where you’ll be seated in order.
Inside, you’ll find counter seating and
traditional Japanese tatami (zashiki) seating areas β perfect if you’re traveling with little ones.
Family-Friendly Highlight #1
Children’s tableware,
and high chairs are a given here, but β
they even have Bumbo seats and baby Moses baskets!
You won’t find many ramen shops in Japan that provide Moses baskets for babies!
Anyone traveling with a baby knows the struggle: mom and dad take turns holding the little one, and one of you ends up eating cold ramen.
Thanks to these baby-friendly amenities, both parents can actually enjoy their meal while it’s still hot. What a thoughtful service!
Recommended Menu
Here’s the menu!
They also offer plenty of set menus!
The menu is also displayed in large print on the wall β easy to read at a glance!
This time, I ordered the Tonkotsu Junmi (Pure Pork Bone Broth Ramen) for Β₯700!
Well, to be honest, it was “this time again!” β I get it every single visit!
Although it’s tonkotsu (rich pork bone broth), the flavor is mild rather than overwhelming, making it easy to enjoy for women and children alike β a great introduction to Kyushu-style ramen!
And inside the small jars set on each table, you’ll findβ¦
pickled red ginger (beni-shoga), Japanese mustard greens (takana), and bean sprouts β all available for free!
You can enjoy them as side toppings,
or pile them all on top of your ramen like I do!
My son ordered the Kids’ Ramen for Β₯480!
With corn on top, it’s guaranteed to make any child smile!
It was so delicious that my son slurped down every last drop of broth!
Family-Friendly Highlight #2
Many ramen shops offer a kids’ menu, but Tatsunoya goes a step further: for children ages 3 and under, they serve a mini-sized bowl of ramenβ¦
and get this β it’s completely βFREEβ!!!!
(Sorry, no photo this time.)
Isn’t that amazing?!
No more frantically blowing on adult ramen to cool it down and dividing it for your toddler!
Thanks to this generous service, my son actually had his very first taste of ramen β his “ramen debut” β right here at Tatsunoya!
So grateful, truly!
Oh, and the kids’ ramen even came with a little bonus gift at the end!
And the bonus was surprisingly generous!
They also gave us a candy treat β both parents and child left with full bellies and full hearts!
For families looking for a kid-friendly ramen experience in Kumamoto, βTatsunoyaβ is the place to go!
