This is Binako, a Sarukuma writer and self-proclaimed “hunger ghost” always on the prowl for great eats around Kumamoto!

Today I’m excited to introduce you to a charming little spot tucked away in Nakamatsu, Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture — “Lunch & Cafe Arimi”.

Although I went for takeaway this time, you can also dine inside the cafe — and I highly recommend trying both options!

The adorable pink signboard really catches your eye — you can’t help but slow down as you drive by, wondering, “Ooh, what’s that?”

Good news: that means the shop is super easy to spot!

There’s also a dedicated takeaway window, which makes ordering quick and convenient.

Freshly Fried Takoyaki (6 pieces) — 500 yen
French Fries — 400 yen
(Cheese / Soy Sauce Butter / Black Pepper)
Pizza — 950 yen
(Tomato / Potato / Pumpkin)

Quite a tempting lineup, right?

This time I went with the
Freshly Fried Takoyaki — 500 yen!

Mmm — doesn’t it look amazing?
The savory aroma of the sauce alone is enough to make your stomach growl.

And there’s nothing quite like takoyaki served fresh and hot — perfect comfort food for an empty stomach!

Ohhh, wow!

The inside is wonderfully soft and gooey — absolutely delicious. Even though it’s fried, it’s surprisingly light and not greasy at all, so you could easily eat plate after plate.

My kid was practically inhaling them, totally hooked! And honestly, I get it — they’re THAT good.

Next time, I definitely want to enjoy a proper sit-down visit at the cafe. If you’re traveling through Aso, be sure to add Lunch & Cafe Arimi to your list!
