Today I’m taking you to one of Kumamoto’s hidden gems for hearty Japanese set meals — perfect for families and solo diners alike.

We’re heading to Nonoshima in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, to visit
“Kanoya” (華乃家).
The exterior is large and easy to spot — you can’t miss it!
The parking lot is shared with a Beijing cuisine restaurant next door, and it’s huge — plenty of space!

The entrance is barrier-free, so strollers can roll right in with ease!
They also have seasonal limited menus and takeout options!
They even helpfully list their most popular dishes — so thoughtful!
The entryway is bright and gleaming — both ceiling and floors are spotless!
The aisles are spacious and the whole place feels wonderfully clean!
A whole row of children’s chairs lined up and ready to go!
The restroom even comes equipped with a diaper-changing station and a baby chair!
Along with counter and table seating, there are also horigotatsu-style tatami rooms (sunken-floor traditional seats), making it perfect for relaxing meals — even with a baby in tow! (^^)

herb chicken karaage, butcher’s croquette, or oyster fry (winter only).
