Mentarashi: Authentic Dandan Noodles in Kumamoto’s Kamitori District
2017.08.26

A Sarukuma writer visits “Mentarashi,” a specialty dandan noodle shop in Kumamoto, and shares the full experience. We’ve also gathered tips for visiting with kids, access info, and opening hours.
Today we’re introducing
“Tantanmen no Mentarashi,”
located in Kamitori-machi, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City.

Recommended Menu
Our top pick is the soupless dandan noodles (shirunashi tantanmen).

The dandan noodles had a wonderfully tingling kick from the Japanese sansho pepper.
A soft-boiled onsen egg and crispy fried garlic added the perfect finishing touches —
absolutely delicious!
They’re open for dinner too!

There’s no parking on-site,
so please use one of the nearby paid parking lots.
Next time, I’d love to come back
for their summer-only chilled dandan noodles!
