About the Shop

Hello there!
I’m Binako — the ever-hungry Sarukuma writer
with a stomach that never seems to know when to stop!

Today I’m introducing
Bäckerei Glück, a delightful bakery located in
Tajiri, Tomiai-machi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City.

The stylish exterior with its charming retro vibe
just draws you right in

There’s a spacious parking lot right in front of the shop.

Step inside and you’ll find shelves loaded with delicious breads.
Take a closer look at this photo!

Side dishes — 100 yen

It might be my first time seeing side dishes at a bakery!
They’re handmade from scratch by the owner’s grandmother.
There’s just no way they wouldn’t be delicious.

You’ll also find
a wonderful selection of sandwiches.

Kids will love these:
Totoro / Bear-shaped bread — 130 yen
(Both are filled with chocolate inside)
Cream Bun — 140 yen
Cornet — 150 yen

They also have big, bold baguettes:
Baguette — 240 yen
Baguette Campagne — 280 yen

Authentic German bread is here too:
Kaiser Semmel — 90 yen

White Loaf Bread — 250 yen
Multigrain Loaf — 320 yen

They also bake rye bread.
And it’s so reassuring that they list all the ingredients used.

Sweet treats are available too.

And don’t forget the coffee menu:
Iced Coffee — 150 yen
Hot Coffee — 150 yen
Café Mocha — 180 yen
Cocoa — 150 yen
Uji Matcha Latte — 150 yen

And yes — you can dine in at the shop as well!

Tucked at the back of the shop is a charming kids’ space.
With picture books to keep little ones happy,
families can take their time and enjoy a relaxing bread lunch together.

This time, I picked up:
Bear-shaped bread
Kaiser Semmel
Meringue Coco

First up,
the Meringue Coco.
Its unique, adorable shape was just irresistible.

Made with meringue and coconut,
it melts on your tongue with a delightful airy fizz,
leaving behind a sweet, dreamy coconut flavor.
That blissful sensation of sweetness slowly dissolving — pure heaven.

Next up,
the Kaiser Semmel.

I loved that it was generously topped with pumpkin seeds.

Crispy on the outside,
chewy and soft on the inside — I’m absolutely in love with this dough.
The more you chew, the more flavor unfolds,
making it the perfect partner for any side dish.

The bear-shaped bread was a treat for my son.
I didn’t manage to capture a photo of the inside,
but it was packed with so much chocolate that he ended up with it smeared all around his mouth as he munched away happily.

About the cookie part on the bear’s mouth, he announced:
“Hmm… this is a rice cracker, isn’t it?”
No, son, it definitely is not.

Adults and children alike can enjoy a leisurely lunch here.
