A Sarukuma writer visits Kikuka Winery in Sagara, Kikuka-machi, Yamaga City, and shares a first-hand report. Price guide: from 1,620 yen. Family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours all in one place.

Hello, everyone! ๐Ÿ˜€
This is Yuzu, your Sarukuma writer ๐ŸŒป

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to
Kikuka Winery,
located in Sagara, Kikuka-machi, Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

“Wait, isn’t a winery just for adults?”

That might be your first thought, but believe it or not,
this is a spot kids can enjoy too! โ˜†

So let’s head inside โ€” GO! GO!!!

First up is the WINERY SPACE.

The shelves here are lined with bottles of locally produced wine,
including the famous Kikuka Wine ๐Ÿท
and visitors were buying plenty to take home ๐Ÿพ

Next is the SHOP, packed with products made right here in Yamaga ๐Ÿ˜‹

You’ll find unique items like edible amazake (sweet rice drink), yuzu-kosho (yuzu pepper paste), and even smoked cheese ๐Ÿ˜

The yuzu-kosho comes in three heat levels.
As a spice lover, I went straight for the hottest one ๐Ÿคฉ

They also offer homemade jams ๐Ÿ’•

The flavors here include tomato, mulberry, pear, and plum โ€” mulberry jam is especially rare!

I’m really curious how it tastes ๐Ÿ˜

And here’s something parents will love โ€” there’s a nursing room ๐Ÿ˜€
Not every place provides one, so this is a really thoughtful touch ๐Ÿ’•

But the real surprise?
A wide, beautifully manicured lawn for kids to run wild on!

I came here for the wine and was completely caught off guard.

I had no idea there was such a relaxing space to spend the afternoon!

Even better, you don’t need to bring your own toys โ€” outdoor play equipment is provided free of charge ๐Ÿ˜„

As you can see, tents are set up with chairs ready to go,
so parents can keep an eye on the kids while relaxing.
Grab some bread sold on-site
(unfortunately it had sold out by the time we arrived)
and simply enjoy the moment in your own way.

There were even hammocks ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

For anyone who enjoys a glass of wine, this welcoming sign was a delight ๐Ÿ˜†

Sipping wine outdoors under a clear autumn sky โ€” pure bliss.

Recommended Menu

This is a Kikuka Winery exclusive made with locally grown chestnuts ๐Ÿ˜‹

Dual Nut Tart โ€” 1,620 yen

Right now, Yamaga City is hosting the
Kumamoto Yamaga Waguri (Japanese Chestnut) Sweets Fair ๐Ÿ˜

Yamaga is the No. 1 chestnut producer in western Japan ๐Ÿคฉ

They also serve gelato ๐Ÿ˜

Unique flavors include amazake, carrot & lemon, and spicy chai,
plus, of course, Yamaga’s signature chestnut flavor ๐Ÿ‘

The chestnut gelato had already sold out โ€” proof of just how popular it is ๐ŸŒฐ

And finally, here’s the wine flight I picked up at the wine tasting corner ๐Ÿท

For just 100 yen per cup, you can sample a variety of wines and find your favorite ๐Ÿ˜€
The roasted chestnut you see in the photo? I picked that up at another shop โค๏ธ

What a wonderful way to spend a perfect autumn day ๐Ÿคฉ
I highly recommend stopping by yourself! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
