Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma!

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to
“Tenmando”,
a charming wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) shop located in Naganishi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City.

The staff here are incredibly warm and welcoming,
with smiles so radiant that you can’t help but leave the shop
feeling absolutely energized and uplifted!

Inside the shop, you’ll find Amazake (sweet rice drink) for 590 yen.

It’s completely additive-free, sugar-free, and alcohol-free,
so even children can enjoy it safely! ♪

Recommended Menu Items

Ohagi (sweet rice balls coated with red bean paste or kinako) come in two sizes:

Tono Ohagi (Lord-sized): 200 yen

Hime Ohagi (Princess-sized): 170 yen

Both are available! ♪

The difference between “Tono” (Lord) and “Hime” (Princess) is simply the size ( *´艸`)
The ones in the photo are plain ohagi and kinako (roasted soybean flour) ohagi (^^♪

Amazake Manju (sweet rice steamed bun): 120 yen

Ikinari Dango (Kumamoto’s local sweet potato dumpling): 160 yen

These guaranteed-to-be-delicious treats are also on offer (*´Д`)

Kinako Mochi: 110 yen for 1 piece, 220 yen for 2 pieces
The “super soft” kinako mochi is so tempting…

I didn’t buy it this time, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! lol

Mitarashi Dango (sweet soy-glazed rice dumplings): 1 cup for 180 yen

Shiratama Azuki (sweet rice balls with red bean paste): 1 cup for 200 yen

They also offer frozen cup-style dango! ♪

Storage instructions: Keep frozen.
When ready to eat, leave at room temperature for 1 hour before enjoying (*´Д`)

All sweets here are additive-free,
so they’re both wholesome and delicious! (*´ω`*)

I tried the Lemonade!

This lemonade was absolutely incredible!
Made with whole lemons, you can feel the lemon pulp
coming through the straw, and the
perfect balance of sweetness and tangy lemon flavor is just amazing.

Wow, I’m really drinking lemon!

That’s exactly how it feels! lol

I tried two varieties of Tono Ohagi (200 yen each)!

You can just tell these are going to be amazing.
The red bean paste and kinako are both handmade with love and care.

Let’s start with the kinako one.

The shape of the mochi rice grains stands out beautifully
against the kinako, doubling its visual appeal!

Sooooo delicious!!!

Inside, there’s anko (sweet red bean paste) wrapped in mochi rice,
then the mochi rice is coated in kinako, creating an incredible three-layer treat!

The combination of kinako, mochi rice, and the sweetness of anko makes it impossible to stop eating!

Next up was the ohagi.
You can choose between tsubuan (chunky red bean paste) or koshian (smooth red bean paste). This time, I went with tsubuan!
This form is just irresistible (*´Д`)

Ah, no doubt about it, the flavor is incredibly rich.

The mochi rice has just the right grainy texture,
and the azuki beans still have their satisfying bite, giving you that perfect chewiness with the bean skin texture
that I absolutely love.

The generous amount of anko paired perfectly with the mochi rice creates an exquisite balance.

Delicious, comforting, and soothing—
