๐Ÿ“Œ What You’ll Learn in This Article
A SaruKuma writer visits “Pan no Takaraya,” a beloved bakery in Kuhonji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City. Prices start from just 160 yen. We’ve also included family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers! ๐Ÿ˜†
I’m Yuzu, a writer for SaruKuma โ˜†

A little about me โ€” I’m passionate about strength training (body sculpting), so while I love delicious food, I’m always mindful of what I eat ๐Ÿ˜„

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden gem located in
Kuhonji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
ใ€Pan no Takarayaใ€‘ โ˜†

This bakery has been around for 70 years, and since my high school was nearby, I used to stop by all the time! ๐Ÿ˜†

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by
rows and rows of beautifully arranged bread ๐Ÿž

So why did I make a special trip here? Because they have
LOW-CARB BREAD โ€” and lots of it!

What is low-carb bread?
While ordinary bread is made from wheat flour,
low-carb bread uses soy flour and wheat bran instead.

The benefits include:
Preventing blood sugar spikes (and that dreaded post-meal sleepiness)
A satisfying, hearty texture that keeps you full longer.

Bran is mostly dietary fiber,
which is great for gut health and helps prevent constipation.

Sounds amazing, right?

Takaraya offers an absolutely incredible selection of low-carb bread!
I’d say it’s the best variety in all of Kumamoto!

A low-carb hot dog?!
This is heaven!

And it’s not just low-carb bread โ€”
they also have high-protein “Macho Bread” and
multi-grain “Shape” loaves โ˜†

For someone like me, this place is pure paradise ๐Ÿคฉ

Their frozen low-sugar pound cake is
an absolute delight! ๐Ÿ˜†

If you’re watching your diet,
you know how tough it can be to give up your favorite treats.
But with low-carb options like these, you can indulge guilt-free! ๐Ÿ˜†

There’s also a cozy eat-in space! ๐Ÿž

You can even grab a coffee to enjoy with your bread ๐Ÿ˜†
Such a treat ๐Ÿ’•

Recommended Menu

Here’s what I tried this time:

From left to right:

Low-Carb Anpan (Sweet Bean Bun) โ€” 160 yen
Carbs: 2.9g | Sweet bean paste: 13.5g
Dietary fiber: 9.2g

For comparison, a typical anpan contains:
Carbs: 38.06g | Dietary fiber: 2.57g

The difference is incredible, isn’t it?

I personally believe you should consume carbs in moderation, but
the high fiber content is what makes low-carb bread truly special!

Low-Carb Chili & Onion Dog โ€” 250 yen
While I don’t have the exact carb count for this one,
it’s a low-carb roll filled with sausage.
Sausage itself is naturally low in carbs.

Chocolate Cream Bun โ€” 160 yen
Carbs: 2.9g | Chocolate cream: 5.9g
Dietary fiber: 9.2g

A typical chocolate cream bun contains:
Carbs: 33.61g | Dietary fiber: 1.12g
So this one is just as impressive!

And the most important thing of all โ€”

IT’S DELICIOUS!!!!

Takaraya’s bran bread is
surprisingly easy to eat!

Whether you’re on a diet or simply mindful about what you eat,
please give this place a try!
