Hello travelers! It’s Nanako, your Sarukuma writer!

Today I’m excited to introduce
“Pizzeria Mamma Mia,”
a charming little spot in Hikari no Mori, Kikuyo Town, Kumamoto Prefecture.

You’ll find it near
“Kikuyo Town Hikari no Mori Disaster Prevention Park,” which we featured recently on Sarukuma,

and just a stone’s throw from Musashigaoka Junior High School.

The eye-catching sign faces the road.
If you’ve ever driven by, you’ve probably wondered what’s inside!

Just looking at this sign makes you hungry.
You’ll find yourself craving pizza every time you pass by!

There are six parking spaces right in front of the shop β€” super convenient.

Although Pizzeria Mamma Mia is famous for takeout, you can also dine in.

Inside, there’s a table for four, a counter with three seats, and a terrace area outside for those who want to enjoy the fresh air.

Originally a takeout-only spot, the restaurant is cozy and compact β€” perfect for small groups or solo diners.

You’ll see families with kids and parents with strollers stopping by, too.
While I was eating, takeout orders kept rolling in non-stop!

This place is seriously popular!

Since I was dining solo, I grabbed a counter seat right in front of the kitchen.
Watching the chef craft each pizza by hand made me feel like a VIP!

The stained-glass wreath hanging by the window adds such a sweet, charming touch.

Behind the counter seats, you’ll spot another window
with stylish books artfully propped against it.

And here’s the real showstopper β€” the wood-fired pizza oven beside the kitchen. So authentic!
Pizzas baked in a proper Italian-style oven, made with love by the chef himself.

How could it be anything but delicious?!

Recommended Menu

Here’s the menu β€” every option looks tempting!
While I was deliberating, the chef kindly told me, “There are photos on the wall behind you.”

Now I’m even more torn β€” they all look incredible!
In the end, the bacon and egg combination won me over, so I ordered this.

The Carbonara Pizza!

Generously topped with bacon and mushrooms β€” looks absolutely divine!

Perfectly charred crust, savory bacon, and a runny golden egg yolk on top…!

The taste? Out-of-this-world amazing.

The thin, chewy crust and the cheese were both fantastic,
but the bacon stole the show. Each bite released more flavor.

Here’s the kicker β€” the chef makes the bacon himself!

When he set out to create a carbonara pizza, he didn’t want to use store-bought bacon loaded with additives, so he started curing his own.

That explains why it tastes so incredible…!

I was so hooked, I devoured the whole thing in no time.

Every ingredient β€” not just the bacon β€” is carefully selected.
You can really feel the chef’s passion for pizza and his customers.

It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with kids, too.

Lunchtime gets busy with takeout orders, so
I highly recommend calling ahead to place your order before picking it up.

Why not grab a takeout pizza and enjoy a picnic at the nearby Disaster Prevention Park? It’s a fun, relaxed way to spend the afternoon β™ͺ
