Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Saa-mama, a writer for “SaruKuma.”

Today I’d love to introduce you to

a wonderful spot in Suizenji, Kumamoto City,
“MASTARS CAFE (Suizenji branch)”.

Originally founded in Fukuoka and now expanding to Tokyo and across Japan, this trendy cafe
opened its very first Kumamoto location on July 7, 2020!
It’s a charming cafe restaurant that beautifully blends the nostalgic warmth of Showa-era Japan with the comforts of a modern cafe.

There’s plenty of parking space, which is super convenient for visitors!

You can spot the terrace seats from the parking lot,
but access to the terrace and interior is only available through the main entrance facing the road.

Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a wonderfully open and airy atmosphere with guests of all ages enjoying themselves!
There are comfy sofa seats and table seats where you can really relax and unwind.

Orders are placed via a touch-screen panel at your table.

Don’t worry — there’s an easy-to-follow instruction guide right on your table.

Simply touch the menu category, browse and find what you’d like to order.
Once you’ve decided, tap the menu item and select the quantity.
When you’re ready, tap the [Order] button to add it to your cart.
If you’d like more items, just repeat the same steps to add them.
When you’re done, tap the [Send Order] button.

This cafe uses a pay-first system.
The screen will display a message asking you to pay at the register first,
so head over to the self-checkout counter inside the cafe.

When heading to the self-checkout, bring along the table number card,
scan the barcode, and your total will appear on the register.

Payment instructions are clearly displayed at your table, making everything super easy.
There are two self-checkout stations inside the cafe.

Just scan your number card barcode at the self-checkout to display your total,
then tap your preferred payment method.
(Currently, only cash is accepted.) Once payment is complete and “Payment Complete” appears on the screen, you’re all set!
Don’t forget to bring your number card back to your table — and your order is officially placed.

Cooking only begins after payment, which is a really modern and efficient system!

The terrace seating is also beautifully clean and spacious.

Recommended Menu Items

This time, I tried the Grilled Chicken Set Meal (1,250 yen plus tax).
It includes a main dish, your choice of side, plus rice, miso soup, and salad — what a steal!

If you order just the side dish on its own, it’s 200 yen off,
and large rice portions and refills are free!

You can choose your side from Chicken Nanban (sweet & sour fried chicken), Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Crab Cream Croquette,
Mixed Vegetable Cream Gratin, Motsu Nabe Menchi-katsu, or Eggplant & Pork!

The plate was overflowing with generous portions of meat and veggies!

Every side option looked tempting, but I went with the Crab Cream Croquette.

The sauce paired wonderfully with it —
crispy on the outside, creamy and melty on the inside. Absolute perfection!

The chicken was incredibly tender — it really surprised me!
So easy to eat and absolutely delicious, with a satisfying salad and miso soup making it a truly filling meal!

Maple Pancakes (980 yen plus tax)
With drink set: 1,280 yen plus tax

Made with premium eggs from “Amitoyamatokokko” in Kashima, Saga Prefecture,
these souffle pancakes are slowly baked at low temperature using only the finest ingredients.
The result? A wonderfully fluffy texture that pairs beautifully with maple syrup!
(I had it without whipped cream as I’m not a fan — that’s why mine looks slightly different in the photo.)

Please note that the pancakes take about 20 minutes to prepare.

The set meal options are wonderfully diverse, including Premium Hamburg Steak Set,
Braised Pork Belly Set, Demi-glace Cutlet Set, and Diced Beef Steak Set, plus…

Mastars Burger and a variety of sandwiches, and…

Curries, doria (Japanese rice gratin), and soups,

Pasta, salads, and a la carte options are also available,

plus a fantastic selection of sweets and desserts!

Stylish drinks and a selection of alcoholic beverages make it a great spot for evenings too!

The drink and food menu is wonderfully diverse!

COFFEE PASSPORT (All-You-Can-Drink Service)
Just 3,980 yen plus tax for unlimited drinks for one whole month!

Mastars Cafe’s Coffee Passport lets you enjoy your daily coffee at an amazing value.
The pass covers more than just coffee — it includes tea (Earl Grey, Ceylon),
original blend hand-drip coffee, and cold-brew iced coffee
,
making it perfect for coffee and tea lovers alike!
