📌 What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer visits “Mugiya Shiroyama” in Joudai, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto City. Prices start from just 110 yen. We’ve also covered family-friendly tips, access, and business hours.

Hello travelers!
I’m Saa-mama, a writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’d like to introduce you to a wonderful local spot:

Mugiya Shiroyama, located in Joudai, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto City.
“Mugiya Shiroyama”

You can’t miss the huge sign with “Dago-jiru” written boldly across the front! (Dago-jiru is a beloved Kumamoto comfort soup with handmade dough dumplings and vegetables.)

The restaurant has a spacious parking lot on the property — perfect if you’re driving around Kumamoto.

Step inside and you’ll find inviting Western-style table seating, plus…

traditional Japanese tatami zashiki seating!
They also provide children’s chairs, so families can dine in comfort — a real plus for travelers with kids.

There are also semi-private rooms available.
And here’s the best part — the signature dago-jiru, udon, and soba noodles are all handmade right here in the restaurant!

Since the noodles are made fresh, your meal takes a few extra minutes to prepare — but they thoughtfully provide picture books to keep little ones entertained while you wait. A small touch that makes a big difference for traveling families!

Recommended Menu Items

Takeout is also available!

The menu offers handmade udon, handmade soba, and other noodle dishes,

plus the signature dago-jiru, set meals, and so much more!
You can choose your dago (dough dumpling) from 4 different styles: Kiri, Tenobe, Hittsumi, or Ikinari!

Kiri is thin and long like udon, but with an even firmer, chewier bite.
Tenobe is hand-stretched thin and torn — pleasantly chewy.
Hittsumi is hand-pinched and wonderfully soft and mochi-like.
Ikinari is dago wrapped around sweet potato — just like eating Kumamoto’s famous “ikinari dango” sweet, with the sweet potato beautifully encased in chewy dough. A perfect match! (Add 110 yen, tax included.)

There’s also an extensive selection of single dishes and side items, so there’s something for every appetite.

A drinks menu is also available.

This time, we ordered the Large Dago-jiru (1,210 yen, tax included).
The broth is rich and flavorful, packed with carrots, shiitake mushrooms, taro, Chinese cabbage, green onions, burdock root, and chicken — a hearty bowl loaded with vegetables. Total comfort food for body and soul!

Beef & Egg Donburi Set Meal (990 yen, tax included)
The set comes with a mini udon, a small side dish, and Japanese pickles — great value and a perfect intro to traditional Japanese dining.

Special Ladies’ Set — A Great Deal!
Lady’s Set with Udon (1,155 yen, tax included)
The udon broth is delicious, with wonderfully chewy noodles, plus prosciutto salad, one piece of inari sushi, agedashi tofu, dessert, and even coffee — an incredible value-packed set!

The restaurant is dedicated to handmade quality and uses additive-free ingredients for everything from toppings to broth,
so you can enjoy your meal with peace of mind — wholesome food that’s gentle on the body.
