Welcome to Mashiki Town Sports Park

Hello there, fellow travelers!
This is Aikero, a writer for SaruKuma, your guide to Kumamoto’s hidden gems.

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful spot tucked away in Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District:
Mashiki Town Sports Park (Mashiki-machi Sogo Undo Koen).
This park is famous for its statue of Sanji from the wildly popular anime One Piece β€” a must-see for fans!
It’s also home to a charming little playground, making it a perfect stop while sightseeing in Kumamoto.
And just nearby is the Mashiki Town Library, which we’ve featured before on SaruKuma β€” so after running around outside, you can relax with some quiet picture book time indoors. (^^)/

Mashiki Town Sports Park: A Family Spot to Break a Sweat with Plenty of Fun! (Kamimashiki District, Mashiki Town)

The parking lot is huge, with plenty of space β€” even on busy weekends, you won’t have any trouble finding a spot.
There are several parking areas, but Parking Lot No. 4 is the closest to both the playground and the library β€” that’s the one I recommend! (^^)
Just drive in through the entrance and follow the road all the way to the back.
There’s a covered rest area, perfect for a quick break.
There are also benches inside the park, but on hot summer days, I’d recommend cooling off inside the air-conditioned Minaterrace Mashiki Information Center, which houses the library.
While there are restrooms in the neighboring stadium, we used the ones inside the Information Center.
If you’re traveling with a baby, the Center is the way to go β€” it has a nursing room and diaper-changing tables.
The vending machines near the parking area offer drinks and ice cream β€” a sweet little bonus on warm days!
There seems to be a walking course too β€” and it looks like a great place for kids to practice riding bikes!
You’ll even find outdoor exercise equipment.
It’s a great way for parents to get a workout in while keeping an eye on the kids! (*’Ο‰’*)

What Makes Mashiki Town Sports Park Special

The eye-catching centerpiece is a large multi-feature play structure that kids can’t resist.
There’s a wavy, twisty slide,
and a spider web-style climbing structure that should keep kids up to elementary school age happily entertained!
There’s even a bouldering wall!
“There aren’t many handholds β€” this is actually pretty tough!” the kids said, but they made it to the top!
With multiple climbing surfaces, several children can play on it at the same time β€” a brilliant design touch!
As for slides β€” well, you can never have too many of those!
There are swings as well.
And spring-mounted ride-on toys, which are perfect for the little ones! β™ͺ
The wide open lawn is also great for ball games and a round of tag.
Since the playground equipment isn’t huge in number, bringing your own toys (a ball, a frisbee, etc.) is a great way to keep little ones entertained for hours.
Whether you’re on a One Piece statue tour around Kumamoto,
looking for a relaxing break during your travels,
or just want to enjoy a casual day at the park β€”
Mashiki Town Sports Park is well worth a visit, with plenty of parking and fun for kids of all ages! (^^)/
The library next door also hosts read-aloud storytime sessions on Saturdays and Sundays.
It’s a good idea to check the schedule before you go! β™ͺ
