A wonderful new chapter has just opened on a beloved local shopping street: a husband-and-wife team launched their authentic pizza shop here at the end of October!

Today I’m excited to introduce you to STARSEED CAFE Rainbow Kumamoto, located in Wakaba, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City.

Since the end of October, the cafe has been operating every Wednesday inside Variety Chef in Kenkun Shopping Street.

So what exactly is a STARSEED CAFE?
It’s a welcoming gathering spot for members of the Starseed Online Salon community. The owner’s wife, Maaya Nakazono – a flower essence and healing practitioner – was a founding (“0th generation”) member.

Fun fact: the very first STARSEED CAFE opened in Roppongi, Tokyo. Each location is wonderfully flexible, with no fixed rules about business style, days, or hours.

While it’s a community space, there’s absolutely no pressure to join the online salon – walk-in guests are warmly welcomed for a meal, no strings attached. So feel free to drop by! ♫“I had no professional food experience, but I’ve always wanted to create a space where people can gather and host events – that’s why I dreamed of opening a STARSEED CAFE,” says Maaya. “My husband makes both Japanese and Western confections, and his skills as a trained baker fit perfectly.”

Her dream took root four years ago after visiting the Roppongi flagship, and her desire to bring the very first STARSEED CAFE to Kumamoto only grew stronger. Once they started moving forward, things fell into place beautifully through one connection after another – and amazingly, the cafe opened in just three months! Her husband had originally planned for a December opening (oops!) (;^ω^)
Here’s a peek at the menu at STARSEED CAFE Rainbow Kumamoto:

・Margherita – 1,300 yen
・Quattro Formaggi – 1,600 yen
・Bismarck – 1,600 yen
・Daily Special Pizza – 1,600 to 2,000 yen
(During our visit, the special was a fresh persimmon fruit pizza!)

★ Add a drink for just +200 yen
(Choose from hot coffee, iced coffee, or rooibos tea)

・Hado (Vibration) Water – 300 yen
(Three varieties: Healing, Relationships, Beauty)

・Kenkun French Bread
A creative new item – French bread made with pizza dough!
・Pizza Party – 2,500 yen per person
Includes 1.5 large 25 cm pizzas and 2 drinks
★ For groups of 4 to 8
★ Limited to one group per day (10:30 AM – 2:00 PM, about 2 hours)
★ Reservations required at least 3 days in advance via Instagram

With a group of 6 or so, you’ll get to sample around 9 different pizza varieties, perfect for sharing and tasting it all in one sitting (●＾o＾●) An ideal setup for casual gatherings with friends or family!
Travelers with gluten sensitivities, rejoice! Wheat-free rice flour pizza is also on the menu (^^)/

One quick tip: rice flour pizza is prepared fresh on the day, so it takes about 30 minutes to serve. If you plan to order it, calling ahead to reserve will save you the wait!

Both are 1,600 yen on their own, or 1,800 yen with a drink.Can’t make it all the way to Kenkun? Or finding it tough to head out with little ones in tow? Great news – they offer mobile pizza party catering (for groups of 4+)!

They’ve successfully hosted events both indoors and in private gardens, with rave reviews from happy guests. Imagine enjoying freshly baked artisan pizza right at home – pretty amazing, right?

They bring their own portable pizza oven – just a small note that they ask guests to cover the electricity cost (about 48 yen for two hours).

STARSEED CAFE Rainbow Kumamoto’s Must-Try Menu

First up: the classic Margherita.
Those perfectly browned crust edges and the irresistible aroma will have your mouth watering instantly! ♡There’s a beauty in simplicity – and this pizza nails it.
Mozzarella, tomato sauce, and fresh basil come together in pure harmony!!
Look at that thick, beautiful crust!
The outer crust is where the dough’s true flavor shines through!

You can taste the wheat aroma in every bite, with a subtle hint of salt and a delightfully chewy texture – seriously satisfying!Next up: the Quattro Formaggi.
Oh wow – I’m absolutely in love with this one ♡

The moment it arrived at our table, the sweet aroma of honey filled the air!!This is what fresh-out-of-the-oven joy is all about!!
The distinctive tang of gorgonzola, the salty richness of cheese, and the sweet drizzle of honey create the most heavenly harmony ♡

“As a baker, I’m meticulous about measurements,” the wife laughed. “I’m not so precise myself…hehe (^_^;) ♫ We spent about a month experimenting with the dough recipe to perfectly match our pizza oven.”

The couple’s gentle, warm personalities truly made our visit feel extra special ♪“There are three varieties of Hado Water – Beauty, Relationships (helps with sorting out personal relationships), and Healing,” she explained, so we had to give it a try!

I went with my friend Gussan, and her hand shot up with an enthusiastic “Beauty for me, please!!” while I chose Healing.

Honestly? It tastes like regular water to me!
But if you’re curious about the experience, why not give it a try yourself? (^^)/They also sell pre-cut pizza slices for takeout right at the storefront. Perfect for travelers in a hurry, or anyone wanting just a quick taste ♪

Local seniors strolling through Kenkun Shopping Street can grab a slice that’s just the right size to enjoy at home.
