Introducing SAGALAX

Today I’m excited to introduce a gem located in Jonan, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City:
SAGALAX — one of my personal favorites that I visit often!

Let me take you inside this stylish little spot!
Look for the eye-catching bright orange exterior — you can’t miss it!
Tucked just off the Jonan Bypass, the restaurant sits at the foot of Kumasho Bridge, where the Hamato River flows gently by.

The neighborhood also boasts other gems like Ikkyu Honpo Jonan, where you can enjoy traditional dango and unusual Kyoto-style takoyaki:

And don’t miss Kagura Jonan, famous for incredible value with kid’s meals and tuna rice bowls!

There’s parking for 4 cars right in front of SAGALAX.

The road is right by the entrance, so if you’re traveling with kids, please make sure to hold their hands.
After climbing a couple of gentle steps, you’ll find two tables that seat four inside.
And look — there’s outdoor seating too!On a sunny day, enjoying pizza on the terrace would be absolutely delightful.

During my visit, a guest in a wheelchair was happily enjoying lunch at the terrace seats!
There’s also a high chair available, and the counter seats can accommodate four guests.
Be sure to check out the recommended menu items posted with photos on the wall!
Along with the business hours, there’s even a guide on how to eat their pizza.

Near the register, you’ll find specialty food items like Tabasco for ¥350 and

Jalapeños for ¥700, plus

SAGALAX Recommended Menu

Now let me introduce the lunch menu!

Taco Set (2 tacos + salad + drink) — ¥1,000

I’ve ordered this before, and even my 5-year-old gobbled it up — that’s how delicious it is!
Here’s the pizza lunch set.

Choose any pizza you like, and for an additional 200 yen, you’ll get a mini salad and drink.

(Add 500 yen and get a mini salad, drink, plus vanilla ice cream too!)

My personal recommendation:
“PORCO BIANCO” — slow-braised pork with potato sauce — ¥1,500The main pizza menu has so many varieties to choose from, you’ll have a hard time deciding!

Don’t forget to check out the seasonal limited menu!
During my visit, the seasonal items included:

“CHEESE cake NANDAMON” — a refreshing lemon cheesecake-style pizza — ¥1,500

“MABO NASU” — tongue-tinglingly delicious mapo eggplant pizza — ¥1,500

The cute names alone make you want to try them all (lol)!The side menu is impressive too:

“PATE IBERICO” — Iberico pork liver pâté — ¥550

“COD LIVER” — wild-caught cod liver — ¥550

“NACHOS CHICKEN” — ¥700

Every item looks absolutely mouthwatering!Here’s the drink menu.

They also serve alcohol, including shochu, cocktails, and whisky!

For lunchtime drinks, you can choose from 8 options: hot coffee, iced coffee, cola, ginger ale, oolong tea, orange juice, and apple juice.
This time, since I was hosting a pizza party with friends, I ordered three pizzas to take out.

The first one:
“TERIYAKI PORK” — ¥1,500

A Japanese-style pizza where teriyaki sauce and shiso leaves are a perfect match!
And the No.1 favorite among ladies’ gatherings — Quattro Formaggi!

The harmony of four cheeses with honey is absolutely classic — you could eat slice after slice!

Other dessert pizzas include:
“MARSHMALLOW” — marshmallow and chocolate dessert pizza — ¥1,500
and more!
The third pizza was a kids’ favorite:
“MAYO CORN” — ¥1,200

Sweet corn with their original mayo sauce — devoured in seconds!

Takeout gets pretty busy even on weekdays, so I highly recommend calling ahead to reserve!
