Introducing Otsuka Park
Hello! It’s Suno, your local Sarukuma writer.
Today I’m taking you to Matsubase-machi in Uki City,
Otsuka Park (倧ε‘ε
¬ε).
This is a small, peaceful park tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood.
There’s no parking lot on site, so it can be a little tricky to find at first.
Look for it right next to the Shimomashiki District Medical Association building.
The entrance is marked by a vehicle barrier like this. Walk up the gentle slope, and…
A wide, grassy open space comes into view! βͺ
Here’s a fun fact: Otsuka Park is actually built around the historic Otsuka Kofun, an ancient Japanese burial mound!
That little hill you can see in the back is the kofun itself.
It’s a large keyhole-shaped tumulus (zenpΕ-kΕen-fun) covered in trees β a classic style of ancient Japanese imperial-era tomb.
If you’re a history buff, this place is a real treat!
There’s a drinking fountain near the entrance, but watch your step β there’s a steep drop right beside it!
Toward the back, you’ll find a covered rest area β perfect for a quick break.
The park is full of trees and greenery, so expect a lively chorus of birds overhead. (laughs)
Highlights of Otsuka Park
Among the playground equipment, you’ll find an old-school giant stride (kaisenotΕ) β a nostalgic favorite that’s becoming rare in modern parks.
My daughter had a blast hopping along the stepping-stone steps and arranging acorns she found on the ground. βͺ
There’s also a cute, colorful climbing structure with an unusual shape that kids love.
Check out this chair-style swing β you don’t see these every day!
It has a backrest, which is great for younger toddlers who aren’t quite steady sitting up yet. βͺ
Just keep in mind: there’s no safety belt or chain, so always supervise little ones closely!
Here’s the view looking out from the kofun side.
There’s a seesaw too, but just like with the drinking fountain, it sits right next to a steep drop β please keep a close eye on your kids!
A set of pull-up bars sits in the shade of a big tree.
And there’s a fun double slide as well.
With its rare ancient burial mound and family-friendly playground, Otsuka Park is a special spot for both history lovers and traveling families.
Definitely add it to your Uki City itinerary! βͺ
