A Sarukuma writer personally visited “Minatomachi Children’s Park” in Minatomachi, Amakusa City, and shares this hands-on report. We’ve also gathered family-friendly tips, access details, and opening hours.

Introducing Minatomachi Children’s Park

Hello! This is Suno, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’d like to introduce you to a wonderful little spot in Minatomachi, Amakusa City:
[Minatomachi Children’s Park].You’ll find it on your left as you come down from Amakusa Mirai Bridge heading toward the Hondo area. (Hondo Sports Park is also right nearby!)

Interestingly, on Google Maps it’s labeled as “Minatomachi Yuenchi” (Minatomachi Amusement Park) โ€” I wonder why?
Minatomachi Children’s Park has three entrances, and at this one, you’ll discover Kotohira Shrine right inside the park grounds.
It’s pretty unusual, isn’t it?
The second entrance is marked by a traditional Japanese torii gate.

(Heads up โ€” there’s no parking lot on site.)Walk in from this side and you’ll see a magnificent pine tree planted on your right.
There were tons of pine cones scattered on the ground, so my child and I had a friendly little contest lining them up in a row! โ™ช
The third entrance has a hand-washing station โ€” super convenient!

Behind the hand-washing station, there’s a slightly older traditional Japanese-style (squat) restroom.

What Makes Minatomachi Children’s Park Special

“Is it a ladybug? A dragonfly? Mom, what is this?” my son asked โ€” and honestly, I had no idea! Turns out it’s a spring seesaw! HahaRight next to it, you’ll find a swing set.
There are also classic spring rider toys for the little ones.

Across the road, you’ll also find two vending machines.
True to its name (Minatomachi means “port town”), the playground equipment features adorable dolphin and ship motifs! โ™ช
There’s also a wavy slide designed to look like ocean waves โ€” and once you climb the stairs, the windows let kids peek out as if they’re looking through a submarine porthole!

Next time you’re heading out to Hondo Port, be sure to swing by Minatomachi Children’s Park โ€” it’s a lovely spot to enjoy the seaside breeze!
