About Machi Pan Lab Uto Store
Hello, this is Aikero, writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’d like to introduce a wonderful spot in Matsuyama-cho, Uto City:
Machi Pan Lab Uto Store.
Nearby is Isshindou Roho, a beautiful traditional Japanese sweets shop covered by our writer Binako.
Our writer Asukarando also previously covered Machi Pan Lab Kumamoto Store.
In October 2020, the original shop changed its name from Tezukuri Pan no Mise NICE to the current Machi Pan Lab Kumamoto Store.
The location stayed the same, so longtime locals may already be familiar with it.
The parking lot is right in front of the store.
It faces the main road, so please be careful when pulling in.
There is also an accessible parking space beside the shop.
A vending machine is also available in the parking lot.
A small reminder of the previous shop name still lingers on the door โ a charming little detail.
Inside, the aisles are nice and spacious.
You can even see the bakers at work!
There’s something so satisfying about watching artisans craft fresh bread right in front of you.
It’s a quiet bonus that this bakery has a restroom โ always appreciated.
Tongs and trays are placed right by the entrance.

Recommended Menu at Machi Pan Lab Uto Store

You absolutely cannot miss the Phantom Cream Bread!
Curious about the “phantom” name, I checked Machi Pan Lab’s website and found the answer.
According to them: “Production was small-scale and only a limited number could be made each day. The bread was so popular that it sold out almost instantly, and customers visiting the shop often couldn’t get their hands on one. Someone said, ‘It’s just like a phantom cream bread!’ โ and the name stuck.”
Soft, flaky Danish-style pastry filled with vanilla bean cream โ it has a delightful cream-puff-like quality to it.
The rich vanilla aroma is just heavenly.
Can you guess what kind of bread this is?
Salted Kombu (Kelp) Roll: 140 yen
Salted kombu in bread? You probably never imagined that combination!
Just by tearing it open, you can feel that wonderfully chewy, mochi-like texture.
It’s so springy that squeezing it firmly will leave a slight indent.
And as for the taste โ yes, you really can taste the salted kombu!
There’s a subtle sweetness too, which I suspect comes from glutinous rice flour.
It’s surprisingly, genuinely delicious!
Every fourth Saturday of the month, the shop holds a cashback event.
You get half of your total purchase amount back as in-store vouchers โ a great deal! Sign up as a LINE friend to receive announcements about the cashback event and new product releases.
Whether you come for the famous Phantom Cream Bread or to try the latest monthly creation, this charming neighborhood bakery is well worth a visit!
