Introducing Inaka Sabou Nonohana

Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’d like to introduce you to a charming spot in Matsubase Town, Uki City:
[Inaka Sabou Nonohana] (Countryside Tea House Nonohana)

It’s located near [Kodomo Ehon no Ie], a children’s picture book library we previously featured.

[Kodomo Ehon no Ie – Shiranui Town, Uki City] A picture book library with toys to borrow — fun for parents and kids!

If you’ve been to that area but somehow missed this cafe — this article is a must-read!

That said, this place leans more toward grown-ups than kids,
so it’s perfect for a parents’ break from childcare (^_^;)
(Children are welcome, just to be clear!)
Just look at this adorable log-house-style building!
To get to “Inaka Sabou Nonohana,” pass the Shiranui Library and head toward Yatsushiro along the [Yatsushiro-Shiranui Wide Area Agricultural Road (Prefectural Route 338)].
Watch for the sign in the photo and turn there.

You’ll see another sign — turn left there, and the cafe will come into view.
Parking is available right in front of the cafe.Look — there’s even a cute little swing in the parking area! There’s also a smokehouse on site — yes, the sausages here are house-smoked and homemade.
Next to the cafe is a horse paddock where you used to be able to watch riders from the local equestrian club.
Unfortunately, the club has since closed and there are no horses there now.The entrance to “Inaka Sabou Nonohana” has steps, but a wheelchair-accessible ramp is also available. There’s a charming sign right at the entrance.
The cafe is run by a lovely husband-and-wife team. And how lovely is the stained-glass design on the door? It even seems to depict the cafe itself! ♪
The interior is just as wonderful!
There’s a staircase, but the second floor is not open to customers. There’s a raised tatami seating area too, but the tables are quite high — for safety reasons, families with young children are seated at the regular floor tables instead.

There are only two child chairs and a limited number of floor seats, so reservations are highly recommended, especially for families with kids.
Handmade crafts are displayed by the windows.Manga and books fill the shelves near the entrance. In the center, fresh local vegetables and homemade jams are on display for purchase.
Beside the register, a glass case showcases salads and cookies for sale.
Here’s the lunch menu on the day I visited:

or

But first, a quick note.

The smokehouse I mentioned earlier produces all the cured meats in-house.
The bread is baked with natural homemade yeast and Kumamoto-grown wheat.
Dishes are made with locally-sourced ingredients, supporting the farm-to-table philosophy.
Milk comes fresh from a nearby local dairy.

Recommended Dishes at Inaka Sabou Nonohana

Dishes are served one by one, French-style.

Whenever I come to Inaka Sabou Nonohana, I always order Today’s Lunch (^^)/
And the reason is simple — that à la carte salad is absolutely incredible!!Can you spot them? Those crystals of sun-dried sea salt!

It’s a simple salad of seasonal vegetables and fruit, dressed with sun-dried sea salt from Amakusa and olive oil — but the salt and oil are absolutely magical!
This salad alone makes the meal worth it (●^o^●)This is the winter vegetable cream soup.
The vegetables are so naturally sweet — pure happiness in a bowl (#^.^#)The main course of the day: roast pork.It comes with a sauce, but you can clearly taste the deep, smoky aroma of the house-smoked pork!
The simplicity is exactly what makes the flavors shine. For dessert: homemade sweet potato ice cream topped with homemade orange peel.
The ice cream has that wonderfully soft, fluffy texture of sweet potato — and the orange peel is a perfect match!

“We don’t have a kids’ menu, and the animals are gone now, so the place isn’t really geared toward children… but if you don’t mind that, you’re more than welcome!”
That’s what the owners told me when I visited for this article. (Thank you so much!)

As I mentioned at the start, depending on your child’s age, this might be a tricky spot to visit.
(I went with my 11-month-old son.)

I did hesitate a bit, but in the end I thought,
“I want to share a wonderful place with all the parents working so hard at raising kids,”
and that’s why I wrote this article (>_<)

It’s such a beautiful spot — I’d love for you to give it a try!
