Introducing the Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center

Today I’m taking you to Ikeda in Kumamoto City’s Nishi Ward, home to
the Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center.

Tucked right inside Kumamoto Municipal Kyomachidai Nursery School, the Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center is a lovely little spot I’m excited to introduce (*^.^*)

Here’s the parking area.
There are 6 spaces, so during support center hours we were able to park easily and stress-free.

How to use the Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center

Hours of Operation — Reservation Required (as of April 2024)
① 9:30–10:45 (2 families)
② 11:00–12:15 (2 families)
③ 14:00–16:00 (3 families)

※ Phone reservations accepted from 9:30 to 16:00
Activities are thoughtfully arranged according to age, making it easy for little ones to mingle with peers in the same developmental stage (^-^)v
Seasonal craft activities looked especially fun (^^)
※ Some activities require advance reservation.

The toilets are shared with the children enrolled at Kyomachidai Nursery.
Watching the older kids in action is actually a wonderful way for little ones to pick up bathroom habits!

Diaper changes can be done right inside the support room.

As soon as you step through the entrance, the Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center room is right there to greet you!

There are dedicated shoe cubbies right outside the support room.

The Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center room has a wonderfully homey, welcoming feel (^-^)v
It’s not a huge space, but that’s exactly what makes it special — the staff are right there with you, and other families are close by, making it easy to swap parenting tips and connect with one another (*^.^*)

The floor is a heated carpet made of a material that can be sanitized, so it stays warm and comfortable to play on.

The toys are sanitized before being handed out, and there’s a charming “toy menu” — just like at a restaurant! Kids point and “order” the toy they want, and out it comes (*^.^*)

My little one wasted no time pointing at the menu, declaring “This one, please!” with absolute confidence (^-^)v

It’s organized by category across multiple pages, and the variety is genuinely impressive.

Once another child has finished playing with a toy, it gets sanitized before being passed along, so occasionally the toy you’ve ordered may be “out of stock” while it’s being cleaned.

The center also features a lovely selection of wooden toys made from Kumamoto Prefecture timber — something you’ve probably been seeing more of lately (*^.^*)
You can also get all sorts of helpful advice on weaning and baby food.
With photo references on display, it’s easy to follow along.
The Kyomachidai Nursery School playground is wonderfully spacious and looks like a blast!

There’s plenty of play equipment, and the wide-open garden gives kids the freedom to run around and let off steam (^-^)v
Mingling with the enrolled nursery kids is also a sweet way to ease the transition before starting nursery school yourself (^^)

The planters are filled with growing vegetables, and we got to enjoy a hands-on harvest with the teachers (^-^)v

The session wrapped up with story time and finger-play games — such a sweet way to end the visit.

The cozy, homey atmosphere at the Kyomachidai Childcare Support Center, combined with the warm and attentive staff, creates an inviting space where both children and parents feel completely at ease chatting and connecting (*^.^*)
