Introducing Mangia Pesce

Hello there! It’s Mido 🌳, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’m excited to share a hidden gem located in Mika, Misato Town, Shimomashiki District —
[Mangia Pesce].

This beloved Italian restaurant operated in central Kumamoto for 23 years until January of this year, so many local foodies will already know the name!
In June, the restaurant reopened in its new home in Misato Town, and I had the pleasure of dropping by ✨

The restaurant currently serves course menus only, available at lunchtime only (reservations required — please book by phone).
Through August, they are open Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (hours may change from September onwards).

Set inside a lovingly renovated traditional Japanese farmhouse, this is a truly special space ♪
It’s the perfect spot for a memorable lunch with friends or someone special!

The restaurant is about 3 km from Michi-no-Eki Misato and Samata-no-Yu hot spring.
I followed Google Maps and made a relaxing drive out to the countryside!Coming from the Kikuyo direction, I found the roads wide and easy to drive on.
Look for the white walls and signature bay window!
Parking is available right in front of the restaurant 🚙
The exterior is absolutely stunning!
The building was originally constructed during the Edo period, 220 years ago, and has been beautifully renovated.
(You can watch videos of the renovation process on their Instagram — including footage of the chef and craftsmen at work, which is fascinating!) Here’s the interior! The high ceilings give the space an open, airy feel!
A wonderfully spacious atmosphere ✨

There’s also a table in the center of the restaurant, and the lush green view from the bay window is breathtaking!!!
(I didn’t get a photo of the view from the window, so you’ll just have to come see it for yourself 👀)

The restaurant is also barrier-free ✨

The menu is a chef’s choice course at ¥4,500 (¥4,950 with tax)
In July and August, you can swap the soup for a special peach soup for an additional ¥1,000 (¥6,050 with tax)

Here’s the drink menu 🥤♪

For a drink, I chose “Chinotto” (¥550), an Italian beverage!
It’s described as having a herbal aroma with an addictive flavor.
Lightly bitter and somewhat cola-like, it was absolutely my kind of drink ✨
The amuse-bouche ✨ The antipasto ✨ The sauce is incredibly delicious ✨
The soup ✨ Bursting with umami — it warms you from the inside!! The pasta of the day was “Panna Pomodoro”!
A classic favorite with a loyal fan base.
The accompanying bread is also delicious ✨
The day’s main course was fish!
Unwrapping the parcel releases the most wonderful aroma ✨
The risotto was a Parmesan cheese risotto!
Finished tableside right before your eyes ✨
A huge wheel of cheese is brought right to your table!!!

Absolutely, mouthwateringly delicious!
A dessert plate with five different sweets!
A dessert sampler that lets you enjoy a variety of flavors ✨
All handmade, each with its own distinct character!
I also ordered an after-meal coffee (not included in the course) ☕
The perfect pairing with dessert.

Every single dish was absolutely, wonderfully delicious

There’s the thrill of not knowing what’s coming next with the chef’s choice course,
the joy of each beautifully presented plate arriving at your table,
— it was a course meal filled with pure happiness 🥄✨
