2023.07.04

Important Notice: We’ve Moved!
The new address is 2334-9 Tsukure, Kikuyo-machi, Kikuchi-gun.
We’re located right next to Izakaya Sendai.
Welcome to Yuamo Cafe
Hello travelers! I’m Mido, a writer for Sarukuma, your local guide to Kumamoto.
Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to a charming little spot in Tsukure, Kikuyo Town —
[Yuamo Cafe].
Opened in June 2022, the cafe is celebrating its 1st anniversary this year. Congratulations to the team!
The cafe’s slogan is “Melon Bread and a Little Something to Eat,” and as you might guess, their melon bread (a beloved Japanese sweet bun with a crispy cookie-like top) is the star of the show. But that’s just the beginning — they also serve a wonderful lunch menu, soft-serve ice cream, and a takeout bento that changes every three days!
Yuamo Cafe is just a 4-minute walk from Sanrigi Station, making it easy to reach by train.
Look for the cute storefront banner featuring the playful ‘Yuamo Cafe’ logo and an illustration of melon bread — you can’t miss it!
Hours are 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with dine-in service available until 4:00 PM.
Let’s take a peek inside!
The interior has a cozy feel with two table seats!
One of the tables has a U-shaped seating arrangement — perfect for groups.
There are also two counter seats!
This is the first counter — seating two guests.
I didn’t snap a photo of it, but there’s a second counter that also seats two!

Yuamo Cafe Recommended Menu Items
Now let me share my honest review of two of Yuamo Cafe’s must-try items: the signature melon bread and the Chicken Nanban Plate Lunch (with soup).
Starting with the melon bread!
Even the paper takeout bag is adorable.
When I peeked inside the bag in my car, the melon bread looked so delicious I had to fight the urge to eat it right there — I drove straight home without any detours!
After agonizing over the choices, I picked three flavors: Matcha, Chocolate Chip, and Salt!
First up: the Matcha Melon Bread.
Matcha-flavored melon bread is pretty rare!
At the first bite, the matcha flavor in the cookie crust came through beautifully — that signature sweet-and-bitter combination is simply magical.
Absolutely delicious. This one is now one of my favorites!
I meant to take just one bite, but before I knew it, I’d eaten half. I quickly grabbed a drink to slow down and savor the rest.
It pairs wonderfully with coffee.
Here’s the Chocolate Chip Melon Bread!
The chocolate chips totally steal the show.
Here’s a side view!
It’s loaded with big, generous chocolate chips — pure happiness in every bite!
My kids declared it “sooo yummy” and devoured it in seconds.
Even my son, who normally doesn’t eat melon bread, said, “This is delicious — can I have more?!”
And finally, the Salt Melon Bread.
The salty note really comes through, creating that addictive sweet-and-salty combination!
Another winner!
Every flavor was incredible — it’s no wonder this melon bread is so popular!

On a separate visit, I came back to try the lunch menu!
The pasta options were tempting, but I went with the Chicken Nanban Plate Lunch (with soup).
I sat at the counter near the kitchen, so while I waited, I could hear the satisfying sizzle of the chicken being fried — building the anticipation perfectly!

The plate came with soup and was piled high with fresh vegetables — a beautifully balanced meal!
The Chicken Nanban had a crispy, crunchy coating that I’m so glad I picked. The generous portion of tartar sauce on top was the perfect finishing touch.
I highly recommend giving it a try!

One last update!
To celebrate Yuamo Cafe’s 1st anniversary, they’re hosting ‘Yuamo Cafe’s Little Marche’ — a small in-store market — on Sunday, July 23rd!
I got a sneak peek at the handmade accessories from one of the vendors, Tsukushinbo, and they were absolutely lovely.
