Today I’m sharing a wonderful spot in Miyasho-cho, Uto City:
Todoroki Suigen (Todoroki Spring)
This natural spring is so beautiful it has been named one of Japan’s 100 Famous Waters 😊
It’s a favorite hangout among local kids and the perfect spot as the weather warms up ♪
Here’s the Todoroki Suigen parking lot.
There’s room for about 7-8 cars, though it does feel a bit snug.
A kei car fits no problem, but if you’re driving a minivan, watch the front-and-back clearance ◎
There’s a second parking area you can use, located about 300 meters before the spring.
It’s much more spacious, so you can park with plenty of breathing room 😊
Here are the restrooms.
They’re right next to the parking lot,
with accessible facilities and a water tap nearby 😊
The space is roomy, so visiting with kids is no problem at all!
On the way to the spring, you’ll spot something fun…
A “mujin hanbai” — an unmanned roadside stand, which is a rare sight these days ◎
They sell vegetables and cut flowers at bargain prices ♪
You drop your money straight into a box,
which can be a fun, novel experience for children 🌸
Right by Todoroki Suigen,
there are shaded benches where you can rest ♪
Real peace of mind if you’re visiting with little ones ◎
And here’s the spring itself, where you can splash around 😊 The surrounding shade keeps it nice and cool ♪
This part of the spring is on the deeper side, and during peak summer you’ll often see kids floating around with inner tubes!
The water depth varies from spot to spot —
some areas only reach an adult’s ankles,
while others go past the knees, so there’s something for every age 😊
The stone steps can be slippery, so please watch your footing 😊
Younger children should always be supervised by an adult.

Why Todoroki Suigen Is a Must-Visit

① Cold, crystal-clear water
As natural spring water, it’s remarkably clean and pure!
And it’s so cool that just dipping your toes in is enough to beat the heat 😊

② Catch tiny critters
You’ll see families bringing buckets and nets to seriously chase after critters ♪
My son found water striders, crabs, and dragonflies.

③ A shaved ice vendor on weekends
On Saturdays and Sundays, a kakigori (shaved ice) vendor sets up shop ♪
Each cup is 400 yen, and there are plenty of flavors to choose from!
Nothing beats enjoying shaved ice outdoors in summer 😊
