2022.10.24

A SaruKuma writer visits and reports on “Iwase Seinikuten,” a yakiniku restaurant in Toshima-nishi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City. Price range: from 3,980 yen. We’ve also summarized family-friendly features, access, and opening hours.
Introducing Iwase Seinikuten
Hello, I’m Miruku, a writer for [SaruKuma].
Today I’m introducing Iwase Seinikuten, located in Toshima-nishi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City.

Iwase Seinikuten opened in June 2022 and serves locally raised Amakusa Kuroge Wagyu beef at remarkably affordable prices.
What’s more, the rice, vegetables, and pretty much every other ingredient used in the restaurant is locally sourced from Kumamoto Prefecture, so you can really savor the flavors of the region! β£οΈ

The parking lot is nice and spacious too! π

This is the entrance.

Take a look! β£οΈ
The interior is wonderfully spacious, stylish, and immaculately clean βΊοΈπ

The meat display itself is a stylish piece of decor π
Even the kids were excited! π

They also sell raw meat to take home! β£οΈ
This counter is right next to the cash register, and on the opposite side you’ll find…

…along with meat, they also sell fresh vegetables! β£οΈ *Vegetables sold on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only.*

Heading inside, we were guided to a roomy private booth with a comfortable sofa bench π
If you let them know in advance when reserving, you can also request a traditional tatami-style room (zashiki)! π

And here’s something special: there’s a kids’ playroom right inside the restaurant! β£οΈ

Animated DVDs play on the screen, picture books are stocked on the shelves β it’s a true kid’s paradise π
The walls are made of clear glass, so parents can keep an eye on their children at all times for total peace of mind.

Iwase Seinikuten β Recommended Menu
This time, I ordered the Kiwami (Premium) Course (Adults: 4,980 yen) βΊοΈ

This is the otoshi (complimentary appetizer) served at the start of your meal β£οΈ
You can place orders right from this touchscreen panel β super convenient even if you don’t speak Japanese π

There are two dipping sauce options (green onion and ponzu), plus grated daikon radish βΊοΈ
They put serious care into their rice as well β it’s cooked the traditional way in a hagama (Japanese cast-iron pot)! β£οΈ
The rice comes out fluffy and tastes like it was just freshly steamed.

On this day, the rice was Aso-grown new-harvest Koshihikari πΎ
A dedicated rice staff member prepares it to perfection.
There’s a generous salad bar stocked with locally grown vegetables…

…and a dessert bar that’s a hit with both adults and kids π
Making your own soft-serve ice cream never gets old, no matter your age π

Besides soft-serve, there’s also a wide variety of sherbets to choose from π

And here’s the spot I was most curious about!
What do you think this stylish neon-lit area is for?? βΊοΈ

Ta-da! β£οΈ
Walk around to the back and you’ll find the drink bar π

All the drinks are self-serve, and they even have something rare in Kumamoto Prefecture β self-serve alcohol (shochu)! β£οΈ

Beer and highballs are also fully stocked π

And here’s the soup bar corner!
With all these extras beyond the yakiniku itself, you’ll definitely leave with a full belly.

One detail I especially loved: the kids’ drink bar cups come with lids! β£οΈ
Lids mean fewer spills, the straw stays in place β such a thoughtful touch for parents π
Here’s another wonderful detail: even the tableware is crafted from Amakusa Toseki β pottery stone mined right here in the Amakusa region of Kumamoto! β£οΈ
So when you visit, you’re not just tasting Kumamoto’s flavors β you’re experiencing its local crafts as well βΊοΈ
If you’re a traveler looking to discover authentic Kumamoto cuisine in a family-friendly setting, definitely add Iwase Seinikuten to your list! β£οΈ
