Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to a hidden gem located in Asoda, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
【COFFEE & BAR AA (Double A)】

I’ve finally made it to AA (Double A), a cafe I’ve been curious about for ages!

The cafe’s concept beautifully captures its essence:

Warm, nourishing meals that feed the body.

Heartfelt words that nourish the soul.

Recharge with “Vitamin AA” at the “Asoda Oasis.”

True to this philosophy, every dish on the menu is gentle on the body, and the interior is absolutely stylish!

Just look at this! What a stunningly chic space…

The high ceilings and meticulous attention to detail are evident throughout.

The interior is spacious. While there are a few steps at the entrance, there’s plenty of room for strollers.

Here are the table seats.

For families, there’s also a traditional Japanese tatami seating area (zashiki).
Baby chairs are available too!

We were lucky enough to be seated in the tatami area on this visit.

Even the water glass coasters are adorable!
With the warm smile of the owner welcoming us, we eagerly looked over the menu.

• Curry of the Day… 1,300 yen
• Omurice of the Day… 1,300 yen
• Karaage Nanban (Fried Chicken with Tartar)… 1,200 yen
• Nori Bento… 1,200 yen

They also offer wildly popular bagels!
They’re sold frozen, but you can also have them toasted in-store.

• Seasonal Limited Bagel… 250 yen

*In-store toasting is a flat 250 yen*

They even have bento boxes using their bagels!

And of course, desserts are on the menu too!

• Custom Pancakes… 650 yen (choose your ice cream, sauce, and toppings)

From custom-blended coffee to seasonal blends inspired by zodiac signs, this tier is perfect for coffee enthusiasts seeking something special!

By the way, for the Chef’s Choice Rice Plate, Curry of the Day, and Omurice of the Day,
the staff will kindly explain each dish in detail.

There’s also a small retail space for various goods.

Right next door, there’s an apparel and lifestyle goods shop, accessible from both outside and through the back of the cafe.

For little ones, there are picture books and capsule toy machines (gachapon), so both adults and children stay entertained!
This place truly defines what “cozy” means.

Recommended Menu Items at COFFEE & BAR AA

This time, I ordered the Chef’s Choice Rice Plate (Kimagure Gohan, 1,300 yen).

On this particular day, the plate featured: Special Karaage (Japanese fried chicken), Wakame Seaweed in Vinegar, Marinated Mushrooms, and Marinated Eggplant & Tomato.
A mushroom-packed menu that captures the flavors of autumn! (^o^)

The karaage was so incredibly delicious that I’d happily order it as a stand-alone dish.

Everything is thoughtfully prepared with nutritional balance in mind,
so it’s not greasy at all – the perfect lunch.

The set comes with your choice of drink (from DRINK+). As a dairy lover, I went with the Cafe au Lait.

Rich and milky with deep, full-bodied flavor.

The Small parfaits all looked so tempting, I had to order one too!

I picked the Coffee Shop’s Coffee Jelly Parfait (500 yen).

Unusually for coffee jelly, fresh fruit hides at the bottom,
and the bittersweet flavors blend beautifully with the sweetness of the ice cream – the perfect after-meal treat!

I was so curious about the bagels that I grabbed one to-go too! (lol)
Maybe a bit of overindulgence…

This time, I went with the White Fish Tartar Bagel (550 yen).

The chewy, hearty bagel paired wonderfully with the crispy white fish fry – absolutely delicious.
It’s also packed with fresh vegetables.

There’s actually one menu item I was torn about ordering this time.

It’s the Grown-Up’s Lunch (1,080 yen)!

Of course, they have a kids’ lunch, but adults wanted in too – and so this menu item was born!
It even comes with that nostalgic little flag stuck in the rice. (lol)

I’m so curious – I’ll definitely have to try the Grown-Up’s Lunch next time!

Every detail of the walls, every corner of the space, was so beautifully designed.
The atmosphere is so wonderful that you can’t help but linger!

Weekends often book up, so I recommend making a reservation in advance.
