Introducing Kazamidori Diner
Hello travelers! I’m Gachako, a writer for Sarukuma.
Today I’m taking you to Kazamidori Diner, a charming restaurant tucked along the historic Buzen Kaido road in Yamaga City.

As you head through Yamaga City toward the famous Yachiyoza Theater, you’ll spot an intriguing tunnel-like entrance that practically begs you to investigate.

(Wait β can you actually drive through here? But it looks like the parking lot is on the other side?)
I cautiously made my way through, and…

Wow!!!
A stylish, hidden restaurant emerged on the other side.
The spacious parking lot can fit about 10 cars β plenty of room.

The entrance itself is gorgeous.
Lunch is limited to just 30 servings per day, so come early!
Inside, you’ll find two traditional Japanese-style raised tatami seating areas.
They even have baby chairs (Bumbo seats) for little ones.
We brought along an 8-month-old baby for her very first restaurant experience, and when I asked, “Can I bring baby food?” the staff happily welcomed us.

Table seating offers about 6 spots.
Shortly after we sat down, the place filled up with the local lunch crowd!

Here’s a peek at the lunch menu:
Jumbo Karaage (Fried Chicken) Plate β 950 yen
Taco Rice β 950 yen
Curry the Fudouiwa β 1,100 yen
Omurice (Omelette Rice) β 1,200 yen
Pirate Plate β 1,200 yen
Grilled SABA (Mackerel) Bowl β 1,300 yen
Mexican Cheese Hamburg Plate β 1,300 yen
Escalope β 1,400 yen
Kids Plate β 680 yen
Every dish comes with a side salad!

I went with the signature dish, Curry the Fudouiwa (1,100 yen).
The karaage on top is wildly oversized!
It looks like a whole chicken thigh served as-is β boom!
And here’s the salad that comes with every meal.
It arrived almost immediately after ordering.
The dressing is a French-style vinaigrette.
It’s not just lettuce β there’s also baguette and traditional Japanese simmered vegetables (oni-shime) on the plate!
There was a soft-boiled egg on top, so I broke it open…

That golden, runny yolk is pure happiness, isn’t it?

The jumbo karaage is so big you cut it into bite-size pieces with a knife.
The coating is perfectly crispy, the meat is tender and juicy,
and the soy sauce and ginger marinade is absolutely incredible!
It pairs beautifully with the European-style curry β true to its name Fudouiwa (named after a famous local rock formation).
My friend ordered the Jumbo Karaage Plate.
This one features another whole chicken thigh β utterly indulgent fried chicken.
The crispy coating really shines here.
Switch up the flavor with sauce or mayo, and you’ll polish it off without getting bored.
