Today I’m introducing you to a hidden gem located in Shimotori, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City:
“Thai Restaurant PinTong”.

In a time when international travel isn’t always easy, this authentic Thai restaurant offers a mini-trip to Thailand right in the middle of Kumamoto City! 🐘🇹🇭

Fun fact — there’s a Sri Lankan restaurant right next door, so this little corner of Kumamoto is perfect for travelers wanting to taste flavors from across Asia.

The restaurant is tucked behind COCOSA along Shimotori shopping arcade, on the second floor of a wonderfully Asian-vibe street.

You’ll spot the lunch menu sign out on the street.
Just follow the arrow and head up the stairs!

Open the door, and you’re suddenly in Thailand! 🐘🇹🇭

And no wonder — the owner is from Thailand. She’s incredibly warm and welcoming, and her Japanese is excellent too, so don’t worry about communication! ♪

Here’s a peek at the lunch menu:

Chicken Green Curry — 800 yen
Beef Massaman Curry — 900 yen
Shrimp Fried Rice — 850 yen
Khao Gai Yang — 800 yen
Gapao Rice (Thai Basil Chicken) — 800 yen
Gai Yang & Thai Curry Set — 950 yen, and more.

Takeaway bento boxes are also available for 600 yen each.

Recommended Menu Items at PinTong

Lunch sets come with fresh spring rolls, soup, and coffee — all starting from just 800 yen. Now that’s a steal! (^^)

In front: a fresh spring roll salad. In the back: the soup.

This soup is jaw-droppingly delicious! 😍 อร่อย (Aroi — “delicious” in Thai)!

The chicken broth and vegetable umami soak right into your soul. (^O^)

The fresh spring rolls have that signature soft, springy, slippery wrapper — exactly like the real deal in Thailand. Absolutely outstanding! 😋

And here’s the Green Curry.

Can you almost smell the aroma through the photo? Because I sure can! (^^)

Loaded with ingredients and seriously satisfying!

It’s spicy but mellowed beautifully by creamy coconut milk — a guaranteed winner. (^^)
The fragrant Thai jasmine rice pairs perfectly with the curry!

And here’s the Gai Yang & Thai Curry set.

Gai Yang is Thai-style grilled chicken. It’s beautifully charred on the outside and wonderfully juicy inside! (^O^)

Drizzle on this dipping sauce for an extra spicy kick — it takes the flavor to a whole new level! ♪

The Thai curry isn’t overwhelmingly spicy — it’s wonderfully mild, making it easy to enjoy even for those with milder palates! 😋

Coffee and dessert are served after the meal (dessert is included with select lunch sets).
