Introducing KANBI Kumamoto

Hello there!
This is Sarukuma writer Gussan, who once named a pet hamster “Cheese.”

As a self-proclaimed cheese lover, I recently enjoyed a meal absolutely smothered in cheese, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Today’s spot is KANBI Kumamoto, located in Shimotori, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.

This popular Korean restaurant from Kitakyushu held its grand opening in Kumamoto on April 23.

Be sure to read all the way to the end — we’ll also share the amazing perks you can get just by following them on Instagram!
Walking from Toricho-suji, you’ll find it on the right side, on the 5th floor of this building.
There’s a 7-Eleven right next door, which makes it an easy landmark to look for.
Take the elevator up to the 5th floor and you’ll be greeted by a generously sized shoe locker.
“This neon sign here is one of our favorite spots,” the friendly staff member told me, pointing to the glowing display near the register.
It has such a stylish, K-drama vibe! ♡
The interior is set up like this — every seat is in a private room.
It’s wonderful being able to relax without worrying about other guests.
The rooms feature horigotatsu-style seating (sunken floor seats with leg space underneath).

Recommended Menu at KANBI Kumamoto

Now let’s dive into the menu!
A quick heads-up: portions at KANBI are seriously generous,
so forget the “4 servings for 4 people” rule and order a little at a time.
I really cannot stress this enough.
Samgyeopsal
Single serving (¥1,848)
Thick-cut pork comes with sangchu (Korean lettuce), kimchi, bean sprouts, garlic, sesame oil, and house-made miso. (Free refills on the sesame oil and miso!)
Choa Chicken (UFO Fondue)
Single serving (¥1,738)
Cheese Dak-galbi
Single serving (¥1,628)
Assorted Namul, Choregi Salad,Cheese Balls, Cheese Kimbap, Long Yukke Sushi,
Tteokbokki, Sundubu,
Stone-Pot Bibimbap, Almond Tofu, and many more dishes to choose from.
The drink menu has plenty to choose from too.
As a mom who often ends up being the designated driver, I’d love to see non-alcoholic cocktails added alongside the non-alcoholic beer. The famous Chamisul (Korean soju) is a must.
I obviously had some myself. (Wait — what happened to that whole “designated driver” thing? Haha)
Beyond regular makgeolli, they also offer easy-to-drink makgeolli cocktails.
All-You-Can-Eat Samgyeopsal is also available (¥2,508).
All-You-Can-Eat Choa Chicken UFO Fondue (¥2,178)
All-You-Can-Eat Cheese Dak-galbi (¥2,178)
And get this — there’s even a lunch-only all-you-can-eat menu!
I definitely want to come back for lunch next time…
The complimentary appetizer was daikon kimchi and cucumber kimchi.
Good and spicy!
Choa Chicken (UFO Fondue)
Clockwise from the top right: plain, yangnyeom (sweet & spicy) chicken, honey mustard, and ume (plum).
No way — this much is just two servings?!
Dunk the chicken into a glorious ocean of mixed cheese, cheddar, and butter.
The chicken is wonderfully crispy with a satisfying crunch. Chicken plus cheese — it has to be delicious, right?
The portions are so satisfying that elementary and middle schoolers are bound to be over the moon.
The restaurant thoughtfully provides gloves, so you can dig in without getting your hands messy.
Drumettes can be tricky for little ones to eat on their own, but with the gloves you can easily tear them into bite-sized pieces.
Cheese Balls
These have a sweet flavor that kids will love.
They’d make a great snack too!
Cheese Kimbap (¥715)
Pull a piece from the middle and watch the cheeeeeese stretch~
Let the photo session begin! Haha
It tastes lighter than it looks, so two or three pieces go down easily.Long Yukke Sushi (¥1,628)
It comes with nori, egg, and green onion, so you can mix and match however you like.
Every combination is delicious.
Yang Gopchang
Korean-style offal and onions piled atop a bed of potatoes.

Yang Gopchang with extra cheese on top.
The cheese stretch was even more impressive than I imagined! Haha
Sweet-and-spicy flavors that kids will adore.
“Mashisseoyo!” (So delicious in Korean!)
Up next, samgyeopsal.
This is just two servings.
Just look at the thickness of that pork.
Samgyeopsal is also great for hungry, growing kids.
Wish I could send you the irresistible aroma of garlic filling the room…
It’ll have you wanting to head to KANBI right this minute!
A little dab of the sweet house-made miso adds another wonderful layer of flavor.
For dessert, we had gateau chocolat.
It comes with two slices of cake plus ice cream — incredible value!
It’s the perfect amount for siblings or parents and kids to share.
And finally, here are some special perks you don’t want to miss.
Follow them on Instagram and choose from one of these three perks:
・2-hour all-you-can-drink for 500 yen
