Introducing MAKI Cafe

Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Igaguri, your SaruKuma writer 🌰

Today, I’m excited to introduce
MAKI Cafe, located in Miyauchi, Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

You’ll find the cafe along Green Avenue, right in front of Greenland (one of Kyushu’s biggest amusement parks).
Next door is “Karayoshi,” a popular spot for fried chicken and gyoza dumplings.

Quick note: when parking, please avoid using Karayoshi’s spaces and stick to MAKI Cafe’s lot.

Must-Try Menu Items at MAKI Cafe

Check out that charming hand-written chalkboard menu!

Limited-time specials include:
Crème Brûlée Crepe
Fruit Tea
Strawberry Crepe
Matcha Crepe
🤤 (How is anyone supposed to choose just one?!)

Lucky for indecisive visitors, the menu has photos to help you decide!
That Crème Brûlée Crepe… it has to be incredible.

Or how about the Matcha Crepe, packed with matcha brownie and chocolate crunch?
That combo is absolutely guaranteed to be delicious!

For takeaway, note that some crepes can be wrapped to-go, while others are best enjoyed right away.

Strawberries are in season — you can’t skip them!

But the classic Chocolate Banana crepe is also calling my name…

So I went with the best of both worlds — the Fresh Strawberry & Chocolate Banana Crepe (500 yen)!
(*^^)v Greedy, I know!

Here’s the best part — the crepe batter is cooked fresh!
The owner only fires up each crepe after the order comes in, so you get it piping hot and made-to-order.

No wonder the crepe shell is on a whole different level!

You can taste a lovely toasty aroma, and the texture is wonderfully chewy and satisfying.
There’s just something magical about a slightly warm crepe — pure happiness in every bite.

Cooking takes a little while, but you can wait comfortably in your car — perfect for road trippers.

The owner also bakes homemade baked goods, which are perfect for keeping impatient little ones happy while waiting.

MAKI Cafe takes pride in using safe ingredients with no additives or preservatives, so even small children can enjoy everything with peace of mind \(â—Žoâ—Ž)/

With that kind of quality, the savory Burritos and Meal Crepes are sure to be just as amazing!
(Personally, I’m dying to try the Bulgogi Cheese Burrito.)

If you prefer something simple, there’s also a Sugar Butter Crepe without cream (^^♪

Beyond crepes, MAKI Cafe also offers a great drink lineup — bubble tea (tapioca), smoothies, coffee, and more!

Don’t miss the limited-time Fruit Tea!
Loaded with nata de coco and chunks of fresh fruit, with the option to swap it for a sparkling soda version ♪

You’ll also find smoothies made with locally grown Arao pears and peaches, plus Kumamoto-grown melon — the kind of fresh local ingredients that make a real difference
(and trust me, they are SO good ☺).

Seasonal menu updates are posted on the cafe’s blog, Instagram, and Facebook, so be sure to check before you visit (^_-)-☆
