A Sarukuma writer visits “Blue Daisy,” a lovely cafe located in Ueki, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City. Price guide: from 1,080 yen. We cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Introducing Blue Daisy

Hello there! (*^-^*)
I’m a Sarukuma writer who’s always wandering around Kumamoto in search of delicious food โ€” and an aromatherapy lover at heart.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to
a wonderful little spot located in Ueki, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City โ€”
“Blue Daisy”!

Ueki is famous for its hot springs and is home to many traditional inns and hotels, so the drive there feels just like a mini-trip. As you head along Prefectural Route 53, you’ll spot a sign for the inn “Otsukien” โ€” turn left just before it, drive on a little, and Blue Daisy will appear on your right (*^-^*)

What a beautiful building! So stylish and Instagram-worthy โ™ช

As you approach the shop, you’ll see the parking lot on your right.

Here’s the parking lot. Spaces are limited, so we recommend carpooling if you’re coming with friends or family.

The menu sign welcomes you right at the entrance (*^-^*)

“Kintsuma Plate”? What’s that?
It turns out to be a plate of side dishes featuring fermented foods! โ™ช

Spicy curry, mouthwatering taco rice, meat doria… ๐Ÿ’›
I love them all, so the decision is already tough!

The current opening hours are written on a charming sign by the entrance โ™ก

Step inside the entrance and you’re greeted by an adorable garden filled with the lovely scents of mint and eucalyptus ๐ŸŒฟ

I’d absolutely love a home this charming!
The garden is full of dandelions, fluffy seed heads, herbs, and flowers โ€” it’s truly delightful โ™ช

Here’s the entrance to the shop โ€” let’s go inside!

Wow! โ™ก It feels like stepping into a charming little boutique.

They display carefully curated lifestyle goods, so you might find a special souvenir to take home โ™ช

The dining space is in the back โ™ช
There were quite a few customers when we arrived (*^-^*)

There’s also counter seating available!

And here’s the restroom โ™ช

The private room is a traditional Japanese-style tatami room.
Soft lighting and gentle natural light combine to create a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

Today I was having lunch with a friend and her little one, so we used this private room (*^-^*)

They had baby chairs, toys, blankets, and throws all ready for us (*ยดโ–ฝ๏ฝ€*)
Such a thoughtful touch โ€” perfect for moms with young children! โ™ก

Here’s the cafe menu โ€” perfect for an afternoon coffee break too!

And if you’d like both lunch and dessert, ordering them together gives you better value (*^-^*)

You can really feel their passion for fermented foods here! They even compare the different fermented ingredients to a baseball lineup โ€” it’s both fun and educational! โ™ช

Wow! โ™ก The Kintsuma Plate has arrived ๐Ÿ’›

It looks absolutely delicious!

The plate features 8 different items

Root vegetable and chicken soy milk miso gratin, carrot potage, kimchi potato salad, fermented tomato sauce pasta, plus soup, bread, and salad โ€” what a feast!

Starting with the soy milk gratin!

The cheese is wonderfully melted and gooey โ€” absolutely delicious! (*ยด่‰ธ๏ฝ€*)

Now for dessert! ๐Ÿ’›

I ordered the strawberry amazake smoothie (*^-^*)

It’s non-alcoholic, of course! Even if you usually find amazake (sweet fermented rice drink) hard to enjoy, this one is so easy to sip.
It has the gentle sweetness of strawberry โ€” incredibly smooth and truly delicious.

My friend’s child was happily gulping it down too (*^-^*)! The crumbly cookies that came with it just melted in my mouth โ™ช

My friend ordered coffee and a dessert plate (*^-^*)
Her dessert plate included a dried fruit pound cake and pudding.

The pound cake was beautifully moist and packed with fruit โ€”
“Mmmm, so good!” (*ยด่‰ธ๏ฝ€*) It was absolutely wonderful.
