Welcome to Minami Aso Thomas Farm

Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, writing for Sarukuma.

Today I’m taking you to Nakamatsu in Minamiaso Village, Aso District, to visit
Minami Aso Thomas Farm โ€” a charming tourist farm tucked into Kumamoto’s lush highlands.

Here you can enjoy strawberry picking, all-you-can-eat strawberries, and freshly harvested strawberries for sale โ€” a delicious treat for visitors of every age.

My son is absolutely strawberry-obsessed. Whenever he picks out sweets, ice cream, or cake, he goes straight for the strawberry flavor almost every single time!

So I took my little strawberry fan on a strawberry-picking adventure, and I can’t wait to share the experience with you!

The farm is easy to spot โ€” just look for the “Strawberry Picking” (ใ„ใกใ”็‹ฉใ‚Š) banner waving along the roadside.
It’s also right near Shirakawa Suigen (Shirakawa Water Source), one of Kumamoto’s most beloved natural spring sites, so the area is blessed with crystal-clear water and pristine surroundings.

The parking area sits right next to the banner โ€” convenient and easy to find.

Reception is located inside the greenhouse. Just check in here first before heading to the strawberry rows.

These are the prices for the strawberry-picking experience with 40 minutes of all-you-can-eat strawberries on the spot.
(Note: Prices vary by season and age group.)

All-you-can-eat strawberry picking can sometimes feel a bit pricey, right?
But Minami Aso Thomas Farm offers wonderfully reasonable rates โ€” a real treat for travelers and families!

This time we skipped the all-you-can-eat option and chose the pick-and-pay course, where you simply harvest and purchase what you collect.
With this option, you pay by weight (market price) for only the strawberries you pick.

Highlights & Recommended Experience

Now let’s dive into the strawberry-picking fun!

You’ll receive an adorable strawberry-patterned basket with a take-home box already set inside. Simply place your freshly picked strawberries into the box as you go!

The greenhouse is bursting with strawberries!

Plump red berries everywhere you look!

The greenhouse is filled with the sweet aroma of ripe strawberries โ€” just stepping inside puts a smile on your face.

While I was busy admiring the berries, my son was already happily filling his box!

Each strawberry is impressively large and perfectly ripe.

Look at this gorgeous haul we brought home! (^^)

The pretty pink boxes also make a wonderful keepsake โ€” and they’re seriously Instagram-worthy!

The flavor? Incredibly sweet and bursting with juiciness!
The strawberries are grown with reduced pesticides, so parents can feel completely at ease letting their kids enjoy them.

If you’re craving strawberries but don’t have time for the full picking experience, no worries!

Just across the road, there’s also a fresh strawberry stand for direct sales.
It’s incredibly popular โ€” cars come and go nonstop with happy customers stocking up on freshly picked berries.

On the day we visited, an adorable young elementary-school girl was helping run the stand!
She politely answered all my questions about pricing, and when I said I wanted to try the picking experience, she ran straight off to fetch her family. I was completely charmed.
What an amazing little ambassador for the farm!

With its kind owners and delightful young helper, Minami Aso Thomas Farm is a truly special spot.
