About the Shop
Hello, travelers!
This is Binako, a writer for SaruKuma, always battling the laundry pile thanks to my kids’ picky outfit choices!
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden gem located in Suya, Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Taiseido” (倧ηε ).

I’d been curious about this shop for ages, and when I heard they’d just launched a Premium Strawberry Dorayaki, I couldn’t sit still β I jumped in the car and zoomed straight over!
There’s convenient parking right in front of the shop.
Inside, you’ll find a beautiful display case lined with traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi).
Saoshika β 170 yen
A gracefully sliced traditional confection that’s almost too pretty to eat.
Shiogama β 120 yen
There are plenty of unique wagashi I’d never seen before β it’s hard to resist buying one of everything!
Right next to the wagashi case sits an equally tempting display of Western-style cakes and pastries.
With both Japanese and Western sweets under one roof,
there’s truly something for every taste here.
Strawberry Tart β 464 yen
Generously topped with juicy strawberries β a dream come true for berry lovers.
Japanese Chestnut Mont Blanc β 486 yen
Amanatsu Citrus Cake β 464 yen
Seasonal sweets are also part of the lineup.
And here’s what I really came for β
Premium Strawberry Dorayaki β 600 yen
Just looking at it gets me excited!
They’ve also got a great selection of baked treats.
There are even tables inside, so you’re welcome to enjoy your sweets right there in the shop.
What I Recommend

Today’s pick:
Premium Strawberry Dorayaki β 600 yen
Just look at this glorious, decadent dorayaki!
Cross-section reveal!
Look at that volume!
Just looking at it makes your mouth water.
It’s so thick when you hold it,
it feels more like holding a hamburger than a Japanese sweet.
Pure indulgence in every bite.
The fresh whipped cream is delicately sweet,
never overpowering β light, smooth, and easy to enjoy!
And the strawberries? Bursting with fresh, juicy flavor that flows out with every bite.
I seriously can’t recommend this enough.
This is a dorayaki for everyone β young, old, and everyone in between.
If you’re visiting Kumamoto, please make a stop at Taiseido β you won’t regret it!
