About the Restaurant

Hello, fellow travelers!

I’m Binako, a Sarukuma writer with such a constant craving for food that I’ve even started snacking on fukujinzuke pickles!

Today I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful spot located in Sosaki, Shichijo-machi, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“mamatoco kitchen”.

The name combines “mama” (mother) and “co” (from kodomo, meaning child),
creating a place that’s gentle on both. What a lovely concept!

Parking is available right in front of and next to the restaurant. The lot is spacious enough to accommodate larger vehicles—great news for travelers with rental cars!

The interior is roomy with multiple table seats.

There are even sofa seats available—a relaxing touch we truly appreciate!

Children’s chairs are also provided, making it easy to bring along little ones.

The restaurant also offers picture books and lap blankets,
so children can stay entertained while waiting for food,
and you can keep cozy and warm in cooler months.

What incredible attention to detail!

The restroom even has a diaper-changing station, so families with babies and toddlers can visit with complete peace of mind.

There’s also an outdoor terrace seating area, and mamatoco kitchen even hosts BBQs—definitely something to try if you visit!

And just beyond the terrace,
there’s a mysterious little hill waiting to be discovered!

It’s a bamboo adventure playground!

Kids can play freely while parents relax. With lunch served on-site, it’s the perfect place for a leisurely family day out.

There’s even grass-skiing equipment available, so you can come empty-handed and still have tons of fun. Could they be any more thoughtful?

They also have goats on the property! We weren’t able to spot any during our visit, but apparently you can feed them when they’re around—a fun bonus for kids and adults alike.

They occasionally host Christmas cake-making workshops too—a fun way to learn a new skill while traveling!

They also sell hamburger sets at mamatoco kitchen.
The early-bird discount drops the price from 4,400 yen to 4,000 yen—a great deal!

You’ll also find collaboration products with Hyakusoen in Ueki-machi, including locally produced rapeseed oil and rice.

It’s wonderful that everything available here is so wholesome and good for you!

And there’s more!
They offer free diapers, so if you run out during lunch,
you can grab one at no charge.

What a lifesaver for traveling families—we couldn’t be more grateful!

Takeout is also available, perfect for those who’d rather enjoy the meal back at their hotel or accommodation.

I started with an iced coffee—perfect on a slightly warm afternoon and wonderfully refreshing.

The starter salad is generously portioned, and soup is included as well.

Chilled Tomato
An entire whole tomato, served as a luxurious starter!

…and inside is the entire tomato in all its glory. Wonderfully exciting!

The chilled tomato is wonderfully juicy and cool, sliding down to gently fill an empty stomach.

Mamatoco Burger: 1,070 yen

This is the famous self-make burger.

It comes with a sausage on top, served piping hot so you can enjoy it warm from start to finish. Dipping it in the sauce makes the rice disappear in no time!

This dish also comes with a sausage. The hearty, savory beef paired with sizzling vegetables is an unbeatable combination.

Silver Hamburger Steak: 1,490 yen
It arrives wrapped dramatically in aluminum foil for a truly impactful presentation!

A burst of steam and an irresistible aroma fills the air—
my appetite shoots straight up!

The flavor is gentle yet rich, letting the natural taste of the beef shine through.
The hamburger steak is wonderfully tender and easy to eat.
Wrapping it has concentrated all the umami flavors beautifully.

You can choose between rice or bread,
and the bread is made from rice flour, making it gluten-free—a thoughtful option for those with dietary needs.

I finished my meal with a café latte. The fine, smooth foam was wonderfully soothing—truly the perfect way to end a coffee break.

A restaurant where both kids and adults can enjoy themselves at lunch prices like these—
you really can’t beat the value!
