Today I’m introducing a much-loved spot located in Mawatari, Minami-ku, Kumamoto City:
Mochikichi Kumanan Branch ⭐︎

Mochikichi is one of Japan’s most beloved senbei (rice cracker) shops — a name almost everyone in Japan knows! 😁

This time, I visited the branch along Heisei-Odori Avenue 😁

There’s plenty of parking available 👍

You’ll also find spaces right next to the building 🚗

At the entrance, I spotted a sign for Kusamochi (mugwort rice cake)!
Made with natural yomogi (Japanese mugwort) — that’s got to be delicious 😎
With that thought, I headed inside GO! GO!!!

Right by the entrance, there’s a photo of Shodai, the Kumamoto-born sumo wrestler! 🏆

He visited the Kengun branch after the Kumamoto earthquake 😊

You can also buy the famous Kokugikan Curry here — usually only available at Tokyo’s national sumo arena! ⭐︎

Kokugikan Curry is a real cult favorite among sumo fans 😁

These beautifully packaged senbei assortment tins 🍘 are a household favorite — perfect as gifts!

The decorative tins make them look really elegant 🤩

Here’s the individually-sold senbei selection.
In the back right, you can spot Tenohira Nikki (“Palm Diary”) — have you heard of it?

It’s filled with bite-sized senbei in many different flavors — perfect for sampling a variety in one bag! 😆

Over here, you’ll find Choco Arare (chocolate-covered rice puffs)!

I absolutely love that sweet-and-salty combo! 🥰

Did you know they sell ice cream and cream daifuku too?

The ice cream is just 83 yen! 😆

Everything is wonderfully wallet-friendly 😆

You can also buy Chikara-mizu, the natural water Mochikichi uses in their products 😊

This is the traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi) corner.

Mochikichi’s signature item: Inari Agemochi (mochi in seasoned fried tofu pouches)

It comes in two flavors — original and yuzu citrus ⭐︎

I bought some this time, so I’ll go into more detail below 😊

And the main reason I came to Mochikichi today —
I wanted to grab the Bisuchoco Batake (Biscuit-Chocolate Field)! 🥰

I’ll share more about it in a moment 😊

Here’s what I picked up:

Inari Agemochi — 345 yen

The seasoned fried tofu pouch and mochi come separately. Just slip the mochi inside the pouch and microwave for about 30 seconds 👍

Ready in no time at all 😊

You can see how big they are compared to the tissue box! 😊

This is a winter-only seasonal product, available roughly from late October through February 😆

In early spring, a strawberry version is also released! 🤩

I first tried Bisuchoco Batake when a friend gave me some, and —
it’s seriously SO good!!!

Several friends were with me at the time, and every single one of them went out to buy some the next day 😆

It has a homey, comforting flavor — perfect for kids too 👍
