About the Bakery

Hello, travelers!

I keep wanting to redecorate my house
but somehow never get around to it.
This is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!

Today I’m introducing a charming little bakery located in
Minami-Takae, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Pan Koubou Hoppe” (Hoppe Bread Workshop).

I think the photos say it all, but…

That pink is SERIOUSLY pink!!
The exterior just screams “artisan bakery,”
and the cheerful look already lifts your mood before you even step inside!

Convenient parking is available right in front of the shop!

There’s an eat-in space inside as well.
The warm wooden interior gives the space such a cozy, relaxing vibe!

The owners seem to be huge Disney fans —
you’ll spot Duffy bears tucked away all over the place! ♪
A fun little detail that’s sure to delight Disney lovers (*´Д`)

Coffee is also available for 400 yen — both iced and hot options! ^^

And here’s the bread!!
The natural light streaming in really matches the rustic ambiance.

Can you see how MASSIVE these are?
Each loaf and bun here is seriously enormous!!
Bigger than the palm of your hand!
Just one of these is enough to fill you up completely.

Hoppe is especially famous for their savory filled buns,
which often sell out quickly!

The fresh batch comes out around 11:00 AM,
so that’s when locals start gathering for the best selection!

They also make giant sweet pastries —
kids’ eyes will absolutely sparkle at the sight of these huge buns! (*´Д`)

This is the fresh-baked kokuto (Japanese brown sugar) bread —
you can practically see the steam rising! Hope it comes through in the photo!

Recommended Menu Items

Once you see them fresh out of the oven, there’s no resisting!
Kokuto (Brown Sugar) Bread — 250 yen

Underneath the bread, there’s a rich, moist
layer of brown sugar pooled at the bottom!

Absolutely delicious!!
The kokuto has a beautiful aroma and a gentle, not-too-sweet flavor,
and the bread itself is fluffy and incredibly tasty!!

Next up: Choco Cornet — 250 yen
A bit pricey for a typical choco cornet…?

Nope — actually a STEAL!
It’s so huge you can’t help but laugh out loud lololol

And here’s the best part — they pipe in the chocolate filling fresh when you order,
so every bite has that just-filled, gooey perfection.

The satisfying weight in your hand feels like pure happiness.
For chocolate lovers, this is paradise.
It’s a week’s worth of choco cornet in one mighty pastry!

If you’re a bread lover visiting Kumamoto, this oversized bakery is an absolute must-visit.
Definitely stop by and see (and taste!) it for yourself!
