I’m Binako,

feeling extra cheerful after a fresh eyelash perm at minimo!

Today I’m introducing
“Yakitori Icchan,”
a charming little grilled skewer shop located in Okada, Shichijo-machi, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Not knowing the shop’s actual name,
I awkwardly asked, “Is this place called Bagushi (horse skewers)?”

Icchan-san turned out to be
incredibly friendly and refreshingly down-to-earth,
chatting away with me about all sorts of little things — it felt so welcoming and cozy. (laugh)

Here’s the menu:
Signature Horse Meat Skewer (Bagushi) — 200 yen
Chicken Heart (Hatsu) — 80 yen
Frankfurter — 200 yen
Chicken Wings (Tebasaki) — 80 yen
Chicken Tenderloin (Sasami) — 80 yen
Chicken Breast (Torimi) — 80 yen
Chicken Skin (Torikawa) — 80 yen

The prices are seriously wallet-friendly!

Horse Meat Skewer — 200 yen
Chicken Tenderloin — 80 yen
Chicken Skin — 80 yen

The horse meat skewer is what drew me in,
so of course I dove right in with excitement.

It has a wonderful chewy bite,
and the rich marbling makes it absolutely delicious.

The meat is springy and bursts with flavor the more you chew — pure happiness in every bite!

I usually picture chicken tenderloin (sasami) as a bit dry,
and honestly I don’t even mind it that way,
but this sasami is the complete opposite — it’s incredibly juicy! lol

Shockingly tender, too! lol

And so flavorful.
Wait — was sasami skewer always this soft?
Is the grilling technique just that good?

The chicken skin is just as impressive —
simply seasoned with salt, with a satisfying chewy texture
that releases more umami the longer you chew. I could honestly chew on it forever.

Every skewer was delicious,
and the whole experience was wonderful.

The friendly conversation while waiting for the skewers to grill made the visit even more enjoyable.
