COFFEE. (Coffee Dot): A Stylish Specialty Coffee Spot in Kumamoto’s Shimotori District
2020.11.11

A SaruKuma writer’s first-hand visit to “COFFEE.” in the Coffee Dot area of central Kumamoto. Price range: from 500 yen. Family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours all in one place.
Hello, fellow travelers!
It’s Binako from SaruKuma, here to share another hidden gem in Kumamoto City.
Today I’m taking you to Shimotori, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, to visit a chic little café called “COFFEE. (Coffee Dot)”.
Even from the outside, you can tell this is one stylish spot.

Step inside and you’ll find a space that’s pure, sleek SOPHISTICATION.
The monochrome interior instantly makes you feel a little more grown-up.
With two table seats and a counter, you can settle in and sip your coffee on-site if you’d like ♪

Right next to the register, you’ll spot a tempting selection of sweets — the perfect partner for your coffee. They look absolutely irresistible.
Recommended Menu

Here’s a fun surprise!
The menu is presented on a tablet — just a swipe of your finger and the entire menu glides into view. Sleek and modern, just like the café itself.
Hand-Drip Coffee — 400 to 500 yen
There are plenty of drip coffee varieties to choose from, so don’t hesitate to ask the staff for their top pick!

Swipe!
Limited-time seasonal drinks include:
Marron (Chestnut) Cream Latte — 500 yen
Hojicha (Roasted Green Tea) Chai Latte — 500 yen
Swipe!
Americano — 400 yen
Café Latte — 450 yen
Brown Sugar (Kokuto) Latte — 450 yen
Matcha Latte — 450 yen
Hojicha Latte — 450 yen
Spoiled for choice with all the seasonal options, I went with the staff’s personal favorite:
Marron Cream Latte — 500 yen
It’s prepared fresh after you order, with the chestnut shaved right on top in front of you.

And oh my goodness — it was AMAZING.
My eyes literally went wide with that first sip!
The shaved chestnut on top has a subtle saltiness, and when it meets the gently sweet whipped cream as you sip, it creates the most magical sweet-and-salty combo. An absolute power duo.
I expected it to be quite sweet, but it’s beautifully balanced — so easy to drink that I lost myself in it and finished the whole thing in one go.
Oops!

Chatting with the friendly barista while sipping my latte made for such a lovely coffee break.
The staff are warm and welcoming, which makes you want to come back again and again ♪
