Hello, fellow travelers!

I’m Binako, a Sarukuma writer who totally fell for the “buy a craft milk tea and get a chocolate” trick — happily, I might add!

Introducing Aso Yakusoen Chadokoro & Shodokoro

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to “Aso Yakusoen Chadokoro & Shodokoro”, a charming herbal tea shop located in Miyaji, Ichinomiya, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
You’ll find it nestled within the Aso Ichinomiya Monzen-machi Shopping Street, a historic shopping arcade leading up to the famous Aso Shrine.

You’ll easily spot the shop thanks to its fluttering herbal tea flags out front.
If you’re a fan of herbal teas and traditional Japanese mountain herbs (sanso), this is absolute heaven! ♪

The moment you step inside, a warm, toasty aroma greets you, instantly making you feel relaxed and at home.

There are also tables and chairs inside, so you can sit down and unwind while you sip.

The counter is lined with an impressive selection of mountain herbs.

They sell custom herbal tea blends tailored to each person’s needs and constitution — a beautiful tradition in Japanese herbal medicine.

Just tell the friendly staff about any health concerns or how you’ve been feeling, and they’ll let you sample a tea blend perfectly suited to you ♪
Being able to taste before you buy is such a thoughtful touch! (*´Д`)

They even offer free samples of their herbal candies — definitely give them a try! ♪
I tried one myself, and the gentle hint of bitterness was surprisingly delicious. (*´Д`)

Recommended Menu at Aso Yakusoen Chadokoro & Shodokoro

Aso Corn Amazake (sweet rice drink) — 300 yen
Aso Mugwort Sweet Tea — 350 yen
Seasonal Medicinal Herb Coffee — 350 yen
Seasonal Recommended Mountain Herb Tea — 200 yen
Custom Wellness Herbal Blend Tea — 300 yen

You can order most drinks hot or iced, perfect for any season or weather. ^^

This time, I went for the Aso Corn Amazake (300 yen)!

The drink had a beautiful golden-yellow tint and a thick, creamy consistency.

One sip and I was hooked!
Made with locally grown corn, the toasty aroma hits you the moment it touches your lips, followed by a rich, lingering flavor that’s simply irresistible.

I could honestly drink this all day long — that’s how much I loved it.

The toasty, nutty notes pair perfectly with the gentle sweetness of amazake, creating a soul-soothing drink that warms you from the inside out.

The shop staff were incredibly kind and attentive, making the whole experience even more memorable.

If you’re traveling through Aso, this is a must-visit spot — go and treat yourself!
