๐Ÿ“Œ What you’ll learn in this article
A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Michi-no-Eki Kyokushi,” a roadside station in Kawabe, Kyokushi, Kikuchi City. Prices start from just 170 yen. We’ve also gathered family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, travelers! It’s Maru, a Sarukuma writer ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™ƒ
Today I’m taking you to a wonderful spot in Kawabe, Kyokushi, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture โ€”
“Michi-no-Eki Kyokushi” roadside station!

You’ll find it right along National Route 325. The huge monument and signboard make it impossible to miss!

As you turn off the main road, a spacious parking lot welcomes you.
Next to it, you’ll spot a sparkling clean restroom.

These restrooms are seriously well-equipped โ€” they even have voice guidance in English! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ A real plus for international visitors.

There are regular restrooms inside the farm shop too, but I highly recommend this one!

And here’s what’s especially worth seeing this time of year โ€”
the Cosmos Garden ๐Ÿ˜ tucked behind the farm shop!

And on top of that โ€”
sunflowers, even in October! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

There were still plenty of buds waiting to bloom, so the show should continue for a while.
Maybe these are an autumn-blooming variety?

Behind the farm shop you’ll also find a grassy lawn area, with the Cosmos Garden just beyond it. On my visit, the lawn was being used as overflow parking.

Last time I came, kids could run around and play here freely,
so I think the lawn only doubles as parking during cosmos season.

But no worries โ€”

There’s a playground on the grounds too!
A huge bonus for families traveling with kids.

There’s also a rest area right at the entrance to the farm shop.

And there’s even a restaurant right next door!

Now then, let’s head inside the shop!

Of course, fresh local vegetables are everywhere โ€” and the meat selection is just as impressive!

You’ll find dried fish ๐ŸŸ straight from Amakusa, and rice ๐ŸŒพ grown right here in Kikuchi.

There were even cute Tween Star cup ice creams โ€” a perfect little snack for the road ๐Ÿ˜‹

The shop is spacious and packed with all sorts of treasures: cosmetics, handcrafted woodwork, ceramics โ€” there’s truly something for everyone.

Must-Try Menu Items

My top pick comes from the prepared-foods counter:

Kyokushi Beef Menchi Katsu (breaded ground beef cutlet) โ€” just 170 yen each!

And it’s fried fresh on the spot~~~!!

No more explanation needed โ€” just go grab one for yourself! ๐Ÿ˜†

If you order croquettes from this prepared-foods counter, they fry them up fresh for you on the spot!!

And there are so many varieties, you’ll have a hard time choosing ๐Ÿ˜‹

I couldn’t resist this one either!

Ham Katsu Sandwich โ€” 300 yen

Guaranteed deliciousness ๐Ÿคฉ

Picture this: cosmos and sunflowers in front of you, a piping-hot menchi katsu in your hand.
Sounds like the perfect Kumamoto moment, doesn’t it? ๐Ÿ˜
