📌 What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Musashizuka Park” in Tatsuda, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City. We cover family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello there!
This is Yutomino, writer for Sarukuma!

Today we’re heading to
Tatsuda in Kita-ku, Kumamoto City, to visit
“Musashizuka Park” — the resting place of the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi.

A peaceful little stream flows from the upper area down to the lower section of the park ♬

Let’s start our tour from the upper area, where Miyamoto Musashi’s grave is located.

This is the first parking lot, right next to the traditional tea house.

If you’re heading to the upper area for the grave and restrooms,
park in the first lot
and walk up the staircase on the left ☆

If you’re mainly visiting the lower area for the playground,
we recommend driving down the slope to the second parking lot ☆

Visiting with a stroller? The second lot is your best bet,
but please note that restrooms are only available in the upper area near the first lot ☆
(You can enter the upper area without any steps if you use the main entrance from the road side.)

Climb the stairs to the upper area and you’ll find a lovely open plaza with benches!

A striking statue of Miyamoto Musashi himself greets visitors (*‘∀‘)

You’ll spot spots that promise gorgeous autumn foliage too… ♬

It was such a surprise to discover that Miyamoto Musashi’s grave is right here in Kumamoto (@_@)

Here are the restrooms.

There appears to be a baby-changing platform in the central multipurpose toilet…
but the bottom panel has been removed,

so unfortunately it’s not usable — please be aware!!!

There’s a hand-washing and drinking water station available ♬

Why You’ll Love This Park

From the upper area to the lower section, a charming little stream flows alongside winding paths and stone steps,
letting you wander down through the park as if descending a gentle hillside ♪

A traditional Japanese pavilion (azumaya) waits at the midway point.

Here’s the view looking down from above.

Here’s the second parking lot — it has noticeably more spaces than the first.

The lower area is where you’ll find the playground equipment.

The little stream flows along the left side.

And here’s a second piece of playground equipment ☆

The gentle sound of flowing water is incredibly relaxing ☆

It’s also a wonderful spot for autumn foliage, so be sure to add it to your Kumamoto itinerary ♪
