A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Kabutomushi Park” (Beetle Park) located in Ozu Town, Kikuchi District. We’ve covered family-friendly highlights, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!

It’s autumn β€” the season of hearty appetites, and I’m fully embracing it!
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce you to
Kabutomushi Park (Beetle Park), located in
Ozu Town, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

You’ll find the park diagonally across from AEON Ozu Store, making it super easy to spot.

The park has vending machines on-site, so staying hydrated during play is easy.

Plus, with an AEON supermarket and a drugstore right across the street, you can pick up snacks, drinks, or anything else you need before settling in!

Inside, there are handwashing stations and drinking fountains too β€” convenient for families!

The ground is decorated with charming illustrations of various insects, and kids absolutely loved touching and exploring them!

Why You’ll Love This Park

And then β€” feast your eyes on this magnificent giant beetle!

Kids absolutely lose their minds over it (in the best way)!

And take a look at this loooong slide!
The kids playing here were having a blast, climbing back up and zooming down again and again!

The body of the beetle is built out of a rope net, and the wobbly, uneven footing makes it tricky to walk on β€” but kids find it endlessly entertaining as they bounce around!

Climbing up…

…hanging onto its legs β€” my son found about a hundred different ways to enjoy the giant beetle!

One word of warning: if you wear sandals, this could happen to you…

The rope net claimed another victim!

Of course, kids don’t care if they’re barefoot or only wearing one shoe β€” they’ll keep on sliding regardless!

You can also navigate from the rope-net body across to the slide section.

It’s a great workout for little legs! Even if they’re a bit nervous at first, they manage to make it across!

Toward the back, there’s a smaller slide and a sandbox too!

Bringing along sand toys would make for an even more fun visit!

Closer to the entrance, you’ll find smaller play equipment, perfect for toddlers and younger children to enjoy!

This smaller play structure also features a rope bridge, and kids just couldn’t get enough β€” crossing back and forth endlessly…

They were completely captivated by the rope-bridge fun!

With its giant beetle and impressively long slide, Kabutomushi Park is a guaranteed hit with children!
