A Saru-Kuma writer visits “KITCHEN Hanaya” in Ikeda, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto City, and shares a hands-on report. Family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours are all covered.

Hello, travelers!
This is Asukarando, a Saru-Kuma writer (^-^)/

Today I’m introducing a wonderful local spot located in
Ikeda, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“KITCHEN Hanaya”.

Look for the bright karaage (Japanese fried chicken) banner โ€” that’s how you’ll find this charming bento (boxed lunch) shop.

They accept phone orders even before opening at 8:00 a.m., which is super convenient if you want to grab your bento and go.

The parking lot is right across the street from the shop.

There’s space for about 5 cars.
Customers were rolling in one after another while I was visiting!

Everything is fried fresh after you order, so you’ll enjoy a piping-hot, made-to-order bento.
Please note: payment is cash only (^^)

Here’s a look at the menu (^-^)/
There are so many tempting choices that you’ll probably need a few minutes to decide!

This one is especially popular with adults.
It comes with their famous karaage too, so it’s perfect if you want to sample a little bit of everything (^-^)/

There are round stools placed outside the shop for waiting customers.
My son sat on the steps to wait.
Since the shop faces the road, please keep a close eye on little ones so they don’t dash out.

While bringing your own eco-bag is a great idea,
since the bento boxes go directly inside, a plastic bag is actually more practical for transport.

Recommended Menu Items

First and foremost, you have to try this one โ˜†

The classic crowd-pleaser โ€” the Karaage Bento (^-^)/

So packed with food that the lid barely closes! Now that’s value (^o^)

Each piece of karaage is roughly the size of an adult fist (^^;

The portion of rice is generous too, so it was just the right size to share with my son (^o^)
The shredded cabbage and pasta sides are a lovely touch (^^)

The Chicken Basket is another great deal.
It’s perfect for those nights when you want to take it easy for dinner (^o^)

And here’s the Big Menchi-Katsu Bento (^-^)/

It comes loaded with karaage, a giant menchi-katsu (breaded minced meat cutlet), and yurinchi chicken (fried chicken with a tangy soy-vinegar sauce).
You’ll wonder if you can possibly finish it all โ€” it’s that hearty (^o^)

The shop staff are warm and friendly, happy to chat with customers.
If you can’t decide what to order, don’t hesitate to ask for their recommendation (^-^)

With travel and outdoor seasons coming up, why not grab a bento from
KITCHEN Hanaya for your next family picnic? (^^)
