A Sarukuma writer visits “Hirata-an” in Komori, Nishihara Village, Aso District, and shares a firsthand report. Price range: from 800 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access information, and opening hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Gussan, a writer from Sarukuma☆
Today I’m excited to introduce
Hirata-an, located in
Komori, Nishihara Village, Aso District.
【Hirata-an】 is an authentic handmade soba restaurant where the buckwheat noodles are crafted using pure spring water from Mt. Tawara.
The restaurant isn’t directly on the main road,
but a large signboard makes it easy to spot.
From the parking lot, you can look down
and see the restaurants of Nishihara Village below — a lovely view!
The parking lot in front of the shop has space for 20 vehicles.
It’s also a popular stop for motorcyclists touring the area.
The traditional Japanese exterior is absolutely charming☆
Step inside and you’ll find a bright, welcoming dining space.
The restaurant is fully barrier-free,
so visitors with strollers or wheelchairs can dine comfortably.
Seating includes a counter and a traditional raised tatami area (koagari).
The spacious tatami seating is perfect for families with children!
And the lush green view through the windows is simply gorgeous (^^)

“A Note from the Restaurant”
Be sure to read it while you wait for your order☆
This time, I ordered the Zaru Soba (800 yen)!
It even comes with warabi mochi (a chilled jelly-like Japanese sweet)♫
Refreshingly smooth and cool — perfect for a hot summer day in Japan!
And here’s the best part! Fresh real wasabi root is served on the side!
You get to grate the wasabi yourself and add as much as you like
to your zaru soba — a true gourmet experience!
What a wonderfully thoughtful touch! (*^^*)

The fresh wasabi got me so excited
