Hello, travelers!
This is Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma”!
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to
[Ishikawa Seipan], a lovely little bakery in Kenkun, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City!
Ishikawa Seipan is conveniently located right at the Kuwamizu intersection!
Just step off at the Kuwamizu Kosaten tram stop on the Kumamoto City Tram line, and you’ll spot it right across the street—super easy to find!
The pristine white exterior is absolutely adorable!
There’s a bicycle parking area right next to the shop.
And there’s a parking lot tucked behind the building.
There’s a sign in the back, too.
You’ll find space for about 3 cars!
Here are the opening hours, posted right at the entrance!

Every loaf and pastry inside the shop is individually wrapped, so you can shop with peace of mind!
Here’s a peek inside!
Soft natural light streams in, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The variety of bread is impressive!
This bakery’s pride and joy is its bread made with natural yeast (tennen kobo)!
It’s the kind of bread you’ll feel good about feeding your kids!

They also sell homemade jams and rusks—perfect souvenirs to take home!
The shop itself is on the cozy side, but here’s a delightful surprise—
there’s an eat-in space!
And there’s even a tiny private room that’s beyond cute!
They’ve even thought to provide a sink and a toaster oven—talk about thoughtful hospitality!
Despite being small, the space is incredibly relaxing—
you’ll feel like you’re enjoying fresh bread at a friend’s home!
Recommended Menu Items
I originally planned to grab everything to-go, but the bread looked so tempting
that I couldn’t resist eating one right there before heading home!
I got to use that adorable little private room!
They even brought out a plate for me to enjoy my bread in-store!
This time, I picked up four different items to try!
Going clockwise:
Walnut Cream Cheese Bread — ¥180
Fondant Chocolat — ¥140
Mitsuba Bread — ¥80
Salted Butter Bread — ¥90
What a lineup!
And I sat down to enjoy this beauty in-store:
the Walnut Cream Cheese Bread (¥180)!
(Excuse my messy tear—haha!)
Inside, you’ll find a generous heap of cream cheese!
Cheese lovers, prepare yourselves—this is heaven!
The dough is incredibly fluffy, and the walnuts pair beautifully with the cream cheese!
It was so good, I devoured it in seconds!
Even their takeout bags are eco-friendly—a thoughtful touch!
And the best part—they’re free of charge, which is so appreciated!
Although the shop is small, customers were streaming in one after another!
I didn’t get to try it this time, but apparently the curry bread is also a must-try!
When you visit, be sure to grab one for yourself!
