Today I’m excited to introduce
a hidden gem in Higashino, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City:
【CAFE Recess.h】 ☆
The warm, homey vibe is obvious from the moment you arrive (*^^*)
Tucked deep in a residential neighborhood, the cafe isn’t visible from the main road, but GPS navigation will guide you straight there!
There’s a parking lot right in front of the shop with 8 spaces available.

Today’s Recess Lunch features tori-ten (Japanese-style chicken tempura) as the main dish!
A lovely terrace area is visible right from the parking lot!
Let’s step inside.
【CAFE Recess.h】 was opened in December 2017 by the Hirakawa mother-and-daughter duo.

The mysterious “h” in the cafe’s name? It stands for the family name Hirakawa! ♫
Inside, you’ll be greeted by the kind and friendly daughter (*^^*)
To the right of the entrance, you’ll find a charming row of counter seats — perfect for solo diners who want to enjoy a relaxed lunch ♫
Table seating is on the left,
and there were already some customers — likely regulars! (laughs)

Behind the table seating, there’s a traditional Japanese-style horigotatsu (sunken kotatsu) tatami area, a perfect setup for families with kids ♫
Child-sized chairs are also available!
While there’s no built-in diaper changing station in the restroom, the cafe provides a dedicated diaper-changing bed that can be brought into the restroom for changing — a thoughtful touch for parents! ♫

The gentle, mild seasoning makes it
a safe and tasty choice for kids too (^o^)
The tori-ten pairs so well with rice, you won’t be able to stop!!!
For my drink, I went with iced coffee!
Today’s petite dessert was a refreshing apple jelly ♫
A small sweet treat after the meal is always such a delightful surprise (´ε｀ )
