Introducing Indian Restaurant SHIVA
Hello there!
This is Gussan, writer for Sarukuma!
Today I’m introducing
Indian Restaurant SHIVA,
located in Kengun, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
The friendly staff greet you with a cheerful “Namaste!”
They’re warm and welcoming to children too,
which makes this one of my favorite spots.
Here’s the exterior!
It’s right in front of the “Kengun-Kohmae” tram stop, so it’s super easy to find!
Parking is available behind the restaurant, and
there’s another lot just across the tram tracks.
(The yellow building on the right is SHIVA.)
Just remember—spaces 1 through 5 are the designated parking spots!
The second lot might seem a bit far at first,
but the walk over the pedestrian bridge offers a fresh new view—
and kids can wave to the tram drivers along the way.
It’s a fun little adventure for little ones!
Inside, you’ll find counter and table seating,
plus a tatami area and child-sized chairs available!
Reservations are also accepted!
Indian Restaurant SHIVA’s Recommended Menu
Lunchtime runs from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
You can crank the spice level up to 50x!
Most places consider 10x to be “extra spicy,” but here it goes all the way to 50x?!
That’s next-level heat!
And don’t miss this gem—free naan refills!
Talk about great value, right?
There’s also a Kids’ Set for ¥500, and they’ll prepare it mild on request.
Lunch comes with a salad and a drink,
plus a soup that mysteriously isn’t on the menu (haha)!
The salad is generously drizzled with dressing
and it’s seriously delicious!
This time I went with the Daily Special (Keema Curry on this day) for ¥700,
and chose lassi as my drink!
I also splurged on the cheese naan upgrade for an extra ¥150.
Just look at this melty, oozing,
piping-hot cheese naan!!!!!
It practically calls out, “Eat me now! Quick!”
Cheese naan refills aren’t free,
but you absolutely have to try it at least once!
By the way, the regular naan is delicious too—
and it’s so huge it actually hangs off the plate!!
The meal wraps up with a cup of strong, rich coffee—
which, you guessed it, isn’t on the menu either (haha)!
These little surprises are part of why I love this place.
In addition to the Kengun branch, there are also Shimotori and Motozono locations.
Definitely give Indian Restaurant SHIVA a try during your visit to Kumamoto!
