Eirantei: A Nostalgic Local Chinese Diner in Kumamoto City You’ll Want to Revisit
2020.06.12

A Sarukuma writer visits “Eirantei,” a beloved Chinese diner in Kumamoto City. Price range: from 1,000 yen. We’ve also gathered family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Today we’re heading to Eirantei, a long-standing local Chinese restaurant tucked away in the Obiyama neighborhood of Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City.
This place has that wonderful old-school charm that makes you curious every time you drive past.
There’s parking for about 10 cars right out front, but since the restaurant sits on the corner of a major intersection, pulling in can feel a little tricky at first.
Inside, you’ll find both regular table seating and traditional Japanese-style tatami seating (zashiki), making it a relaxed spot whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with kids.
Recommended Menu Items
The menu has loads of variety β and oops, this turned out to be the only menu photo we managed to snap!
Anyway, on this visit we ordered the champon, the tenshin-don, and the Stamina Set Meal (1,000 yen).
Champon is a Kyushu-style noodle soup loaded with vegetables, seafood, and pork β a hearty bowl that grown-ups appreciate and kids genuinely love!
Tenshin-don β a fluffy crab-style omelet over rice β arrived with the most beautiful glossy sauce on top!
And then came the Stamina Set Meal!
By the time the photo was taken I’d already shared a chunk of it with the kids, but trust me β it’s seriously generous in real life!
It’s the kind of dish that makes a bowl of rice disappear in seconds.
The warm-hearted okaasan (the mama of the house) at Eirantei is something special. When my little one started fussing, she quietly brought over a glass of Calpis on the house.
She also gently reminded us, “The soup’s hot, so be careful with the kids,” and on the way out, “Watch the step at the door β get home safely!” β pure Japanese hospitality at its best.
What made it even sweeter? My child had spilled a glass of water at the table, and she still treated us like family.
It’s the kind of place where you find yourself wanting to come back just to see the okaasan again.
