Welcome to TRON
Hello travelers! I’m Gachako, a writer for Sarukuma.
Looking for a hidden gem to add to your Kumamoto itinerary? On the way back from the Aso area during Japan’s Golden Week holiday, we stopped at a delightful cafe I just had to share β TRON, located in Harumizu, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District.

Teppokoji β a historic street that’s home to TRON.
What is Teppokoji? (Quoted from Kumamoto Prefecture’s official tourism website)
Teppokoji was created between 1635 and 1636 in the early Edo period by Hosokawa Tadatoshi, the feudal lord upon his arrival in Higo Province. Located at the “demon’s gate” direction (kimon) when viewed from Kumamoto Castle, the area was developed to defend the surrounding region from outside invasion. Old samurai residences and storehouses still line the street, with beautifully maintained hedgerows lovingly cared for by local residents β a stunning landscape rich in historical value. In 2012, it was selected as one of the “50 Historic Towns of Kumamoto.”
I usually drive straight along the main highway, so I had no idea this beautiful street even existed. The magnificent hedges, carefully tended by the local community, are absolutely breathtaking. So glad I discovered it!

The cafe is housed in a stylishly renovated former farm equipment shed, and inside, there’s a play kitchen corner where kids can enjoy pretend cooking!

The moment my kids spotted the play kitchen, they dove right in.

The owner’s wife is a florist, so TRON also sells beautiful fresh flowers β perfect timing for Mother’s Day! β‘
They also carry a curated selection of delicious Kumamoto-made souvenirs β great for travelers looking for unique local gifts.
Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for β TRON’s menu!

The lineup focuses on sweets β β Japanese chestnut Mont Blanc, soft serve ice cream, fried bread (age-pan), and more.

There were limited-edition shakes too (strawberry and marmalade flavors). The strawberry one will only be available for a few more days, so hurry if you want to try it!
TRON’s Must-Try Menu

I ordered the TRON Berry Sandwich.
Warm fried bread filled with cream and fresh strawberries β it’s almost unfair how delicious this combination is!

The kids picked the strawberry shake. Fresh strawberries and homemade jam blended with rich, creamy milk β a perfect match!

My younger son couldn’t resist ordering the milk soft serve topped with strawberries. It came absolutely loaded with fresh berries, and he polished it off with the biggest grin.
Strawberry season is wrapping up soon, but I can’t wait to see what seasonal flavors come next. If you’re exploring Kumamoto, be sure to stop by TRON for a sweet treat and creamy soft serve!
