Today I’m sharing a hidden gem located in Toyooka, Koshi City — just a short drive from central Kumamoto:

Here you can taste premium authentic Taiwanese tapioca ✨
With cup ice cream and fluffy shaved ice that kids love, it’s a perfect spot for families too! ♪The shop is easy to spot thanks to the colorful banners out front!There are about 4 parking spaces in front of the shop.
The owner has an arrangement with the 7-Eleven across the street, so you can park there too if the lot is full!

In front of Hawaii, you’ll find two long benches, plus table seating along the side of the shop, so you can enjoy your treat right on the spot 🥤
The wall next to the table is a doodle space! Markers are provided on the table.

Here’s something special about this shop…
It’s the very first Japanese branch of “Hawaii (Natsuwai),” a long-established and famous tapioca shop from Taiwan!
The only one in all of Japan!
They use only “premium-grade authentic Taiwanese tapioca” — true craftsmanship goes into every single pearl.

This is the recommended size — about 700 ml of pure deliciousness, and it’s heavy! ✨
The sheer volume is jaw-dropping!!
And remember, going even bigger costs the same — truly amazing!
The shaved ice is topped with tapioca, pineapple-mango, peanuts, and an extra layer of whipped cream.

I started with a bite of shaved ice and tapioca together!
The tapioca is incredibly chewy and delicious ✨
Most tapioca pearls turn hard when added to shaved ice, but these stay perfectly mochi-like 🥰

The tapioca has a naturally sweet flavor that’s just wonderful — the secret is brown sugar.

The shaved ice itself is fluffy, the frozen apple mango is juicy, and the rich syrup ties it all together!
The peanuts add a fantastic crunch and pair surprisingly well with everything ✨ Hidden inside is a layer of condensed milk too — a truly blissful flavor 🥰

An absolute classic that never disappoints!!!
The milk tea has a perfectly balanced sweetness, and the chewy tapioca is a match made in heaven.

Last but not least… “Fluffy Shaved Ice (Lemon flavor)”
A simple shaved ice, but the ice is wonderfully fluffy!My kids were completely hooked, calling out “Yummy!” with every bite!!
My little one, who loves citrus, was thrilled to find lemon flavor 🍋 on the menu!

It was a hot day, but after enjoying these treats, we felt totally refreshed!
The carefully crafted tapioca here is something every visitor should try at least once!
