📌 What you’ll find in this article
A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Kezuriya Honpo,” a charming strawberry shaved ice stand in Kawayo, Minamiaso Village, Aso District. Prices start from ¥800. We’ve also covered family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Welcome to Kezuriya (Kezuriya) Honpo

Hi everyone, this is Gachako, a writer for Sarukuma!

How is your summer going so far?
The Japanese summer heat can be brutal, and after a long day in the sun, your body craves a refreshing burst of vitamin C…
If that sounds like you, I’ve found the perfect treat to share!

Today, I’m taking you to Kawayo, Minamiaso Village, Aso District — home to
【Kezuriya Honpo】, a hidden gem for strawberry lovers.

Driving from Aso Ohashi Bridge toward Takamori, you’ll spot the eye-catching banner pictured below — Kezuriya is just beyond it.

I’d been curious about this place every time I drove past, and I finally made it in! ♪♪

Kezuriya Honpo’s strawberries come straight from the on-site farm 【Berry-ju Berry】, served as their signature shaved strawberry ice 🍓

The parking lot fits about 8 cars, and there’s a restroom on site — perfect for a quick stop on a road trip through Aso! ♪

Here’s what the building looks like. You order at the small window on the left.

The Kezuriya Honpo menu is refreshingly simple — just two sizes of shaved strawberry ice: L or M. That’s it! (Easy choice, right?)

The L size is ¥800 and comes with whole strawberries hidden at the bottom.
The M size is ¥600 — a lighter portion that’s quick to enjoy. (I forgot to take a comparison photo of the cups, sorry!)

After ordering, you wait until the bell rings. You can even wait inside your car, which is a nice touch.

Recommended Menu at Kezuriya Honpo

I went for the Shaved Strawberry Ice — L size.

The frozen strawberries are shaved into a snow-like texture, and there’s nothing in this dessert except pure strawberries — both on top and underneath!
No regular ice is used at all. It’s 100% strawberry.

And it’s drizzled generously with sweetened condensed milk. Heaven for condensed milk fans!

Because the strawberry is shaved so finely, it melts softly the moment it hits your tongue.
No brain freeze either — just gentle, fluffy bliss.

Since I went for the L size, whole strawberries appeared from the bottom as a delicious surprise!
I saved them for last and let them melt slowly into the cream. (I lost count of how many strawberries went into one cup — easily a whole pack’s worth. With all that vitamin C, I’m convinced one of my sun spots disappeared on the spot!)

The neighboring farm 【Berry-ju Berry】 also offers strawberry picking from December to May, and blueberry picking from late July through September.

Next time, I’m definitely going strawberry picking!
If you find yourself exploring the Aso area, do stop by 【Kezuriya Honpo】 — you’ll thank yourself later 🍓
